Some may say they are just pets and they are. Bear, my gsd will pass on tonight or tomorrow if he needs assistance. Not expecting a big thread and I don’t have much of a reason to make it other than I don’t have an outlet for my feelings.

Had him young at 6 weeks. Always bull headed but loved people. Best camping dog ever. Before I moved to Texas a thing happened with my wife and I spent a whole year alone, dealing with a remodel. Many times he was my only friend. Now I gotta say goodbye.

    I’ll upload some pics soon.

Dang that sux...sorry for your loss.
I've had enough dogs over the years to feel your pain. I'm sure you'll look back & enjoy all the old memories as you enjoy new ones with his successor.
Went through the same thing a few years ...the house was just too empty coming home & a month later we had 2 successors...lol

I understand your hurt. Over the years we have had to lay many of our canine and feline family members to rest. We have most of them buried around the back property line alongside the garden where I can visit them nearly daily. My eldest son had to have his dog put down last Saturday. Ruby had lymphoma and this dog was my son's best friend, good luck and often his only companion. The dog was often I think the only thing that kept my son alive and going. Believe me, there is no shame in the tears, and choked throat and pain you feel. Our dogs love us without demand or reservation. These often give me comfort and reflection on the love I ahve been given by my dogs.
:"Speak kindly to me, beloved master. Revel in my unconditional love, and give me every minute that you can spare, for my time with you is short. "
    --Your faithful dog

Another:"Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

I kept a diabetic alive for 3.5 years giving 2 insulin shots per day. Vet said that was 1.5 years better than expected....finally reached a point woulda been cruel to continue....never replaced; at my age they might outlive me.
    Know your pain!!

Sorry for your loss, at best it sucks. Better days ahead.
Been there done that. Never again, I'm to old to burden a good puppy now.
But I sure miss my little girl still. She took a big part of me with her.

Thanks guys. I’m hoping he goes in the night ok. I got some contacts of vets who can make a home visit and help him move on if need be. Right now he’s waiting for his last breath and sleeping. I told him I love him and thanked him for being my friend.
