I remember back in the 1960s/70s when Buddie's supermarket (or was it Piggly Wiggly?) on Randol Mill Rd. in Arlington had a hardware store as part of the building. The door was closed on Sunday as well as several aisles 'roped-off' in the food area.

Could not buy items from some aisles on Sunday. I thought it was strange but then I was only a kid.

I still sometimes forget to food shop after NOON on Sunday if I need Beer!!!!

It was Buddies and they eventually just ignored the blue laws. Don't remember them ever fined or discussed in the news.

Not on Sunday before noon too. They're doing it for the lord. /sarc
Back in the 80s and 90s, if I wanted beer before noon, I would just go to the Px at Camp Mabry and buy it. Federal facilities didn't follow state liquor laws at the time. I don't know, maybe they do now.

Spent some time in Wisconsin, and you can buy liquor at gas stations. Pretty convenient. Gas up, get a bottle of jack for your fountain coke.

Same in NM - and in the grocery stores. In GA, no beer on Sunday though.

In CO, up until Jan 1st of this year, you had to go to a liquor store to get full strength beer. It was odd to be walking through a Whole Foods there last year with no beer or wine in it.

I thought the Dallas area had some weird restrictions around ‘private clubs’.

I don’t know if it’s still the case, but Tom Green County used have only 1 precinct that allowed package sales for hard liquor. Had to drive out west of town, IIRC. Lubbock used to be that way, too.

When I was there I spoke with the bar maid. "I got all day tomorrow to go sight seeing. Where should I go?"

"No where. Haven't you noticed there is a bar on every corner? Nothing to do here but binge-drink....."

"Well, you are NOT getting hired by the chamber of commerce..."

lol. I did find some places up there. Door County was a really nice drive, and had some smoked Whitefish.

Interesting. Door Cty is where I spend my summers.
Some natural AC with all of the water around it

Another notable fact about WI is that you can carry in any establishment that sells alcohol (unless specifically signed, and very few gun buster signs anywhere) so long as you are NOT drinking. No 51% bs. And, OC is constitutionally allowed!

Yes, for a restaurant to serve you a drink you had to be a member. Chili's and other restaurants got together and formed their own "club" so your card could be used at different places. I think they charged $1 to join. That all went away in the early 90s.
