    The Woodlands, Tx.
Take it nude except for a Mardi Gras mask.

    Take it outdoors.

    Take it at an airport.

Have a big brother is watching sign in the background.

Just out of curiosity , did the course requirements or syllabus mention this program?

Take it in a old fashioned phone booth with a seat and closable doors.

Buy a computer or rent one just for this.

Tell her it's not your computer and the owner won't allow it.

Offer to take it in her office.

    Why wear a mask?

Reminds me of the time the Jehovah's witnesses came by and I answered the door naked and invited the ladies an one gent in. Apparently , they felt they had witnessed enough and left. They had been comming by weekly but were neever again seen on a our block.

The 75 year old german lady across the street thought it was a hoot and asked if she could witness too. My wife said no. I thought something could be worked out.

Or in his own home. In the classroom, there is very little expectation of privacy. In essence, the computer is now the classroom, so long as the program isn’t invasive with respect to the box itself, I don’t know there’s a remedy. That the user chooses to bring the classroom into his/her house is a choice the user makes, unless the school policy says “thou shalt”.

Showing an ID and surveillance of the text taking area, and restricting resources are common and normal things in proctoring.

Which begs the question of whether there are alternative proctoring options.

I don't know where you got the idea that you give up your right to privacy just because you enrolled in an online class, but you are wrong. Comparing the lack of privacy you have in a public setting such as a classroom, to the use of invasive software on your computer in your home is asinine at best. Furthermore, professors cannot just look through your computer in person, so why should they be allowed to via software?

Also, school policy does not override Constitutional rights. SCOTUS has confirmed that we have a Constitutionally protected right to privacy.

Set up a VM and install the software there.
This is likely the option I will take along with some general tomfoolery. If it was an option, I'd drop the class entirely.

I will also likely bring up my concerns with a few people within the University Administration.

    Why all the pervy suggestions?

    Not interested in helping?

The guy's looking for reasonable ideas.
They're better than nothing. Honestly, short of legal action that I neither have the time or the funds to pursue, there's not a whole lot that can be done other than screwing with them. 4 months and I'm done with crap for good.

No violation of your privacy, you signed up. Maybe you are in a psyc. experiment?
Had I been informed of these requirements before hand, you might have an argument. I wasn't.

Then again, I think we need to ask ourselves if we really want the government (public university) to be able to make you sign your rights way just so you can take a class required for your degree, informed or not.

The answer to that should hopefully be an astounding "no" for most people.

Ain’t nobody requires you to go to college.

But I sure would be reading the fine print that comes along with all the money being paid to the college.

Take action with the school over your complain or quit your bitching, because nobody here can do anything about it for you.

If I were still a college student, a time when I owned nothing that it would pain me to lose or have destroyed, I would approach this as an opportunity. I'd:
    • get a lawyer to help structure my plan,
    • back up all my data off site since that's the only thing I would own that had any value to me,
    • properly wipe my machine,
    • re-install an OS,
    • install the required program in a VM with unique, non-standard specs,
    • put a plain-text file in easy view of any snoops, said file to contain an elaborate plan to murder everyone at school, especially the person who required the software and everyone on their staff, in the name of ISIS, some other group, or some random psychosis I make up for myself,
    • put another file right next to it, encrypted, stating clearly that the plain-text file is a test of the software security and privacy protections of the university (perhaps as a part of a paper I want to write for the university, complete with outline and other pertinent details), and
    • take the test(s).
If a SWAT team kicks in my door any time during that semester, life will be hell for a while but I'll eventually get it sorted out. What I will gain is unimpeachable proof that the university is spying on students in violation of multiple laws and all reasonable expectations a student may have for the conduct of their university.

I would then let that lawyer loose to sue for a bazillion dollars. I would reasonably expect to walk away with a substantial settlement.

If the FBI doesn't question me, then my mind would be at peace, knowing the university isn't really paying any attention to the data they say they want to be able to gather.

But that's just me. I was poor in college and had nothing to lose. I would have been willing to go through a little (or perhaps a lot) of hell for a big payout.

    Obviously, YMMV. Big time.

I’d just tape the webcam and speakers and store the damn thing in my truck. For spyware to be openly used like that, no one can tell you it has to come in your home or not. F-em.

get a computer that doesn't gave a camera. I have 2 old mac laptops like that. Really, it wasn't on the list of reguired supplies , ask her to front you the money for a camera cause you are a poor college student.
