Part of my quest for a precision 10/22. Here’s a box stock 10/22 with a Game Winner 4x32 on it.

50 yards, indoor, best of 5 shot groups.

How many rounds down the pipe?
I've found Ruger to improve drastically around 80 to 100 rounds on a fresh barrel.
    Ammo choice varies as well.

Thousands, if not tens of thousands. This little 10/22 has been in the family for at least 30 years and has been passed around like, well, just be creative in your thinking.

Aguila Target is what I shot today in an exercise just to see what it will do with the first random box I pulled and a plane Jane.

I’ll swap triggers, move the action over to a PRS stock and put some better glass on it as my initial steps.

Then, all that goes back to original and a better 10/22 receiver/barrel is going to get ordered as I don’t want to permanently change this particular rifle; it’ll get passed on to my son when he’s got kids.

I’ll probably settle on the CMO Eley as a standard load, but I know there’s way better stuff out there. Don’t know if I want to go chasing lot numbers and all that just yet.

IMO...you know what they say about those :green:
If I wanted to pass it down to my son
I'd put the trigger on & leave it alone. Maybe a barrel if i want improve accuracy... get a stock barrel to keep the original look or what ever after market i choose. Then get myself a Ruger Precision .22 & call it done.
What better reason to buy a new gun

I may end up doing just that. Other than the current 10/22 stats in the family, the goal is precision shooting inexpensively.

These arrived while at the range.

Dawico, I use the MOE rifle stock on my lowers, seems to work fine. A2 angle is a problem with rabbit ear rear bag. Still trying to find a Hornady 'delta' to replace the caldwell front stand. Plastic triangular rotomoulded rig that allows different height, rifle just slides back fine with recoil. Normally I put a rag under the foreend to avoid the grabby 'leather' caldwell problem.
Page #3 target was shot with the delta, squesy bag under the stock. Not bad for sitting on a cooler with a home-made shooting table in a stubble field. IMHO, pulled the last lower left shot, at least got to ride the 4 wheeler to reset the target. Probably better if I had zero'd the cross hairs for 200.

Took my Tikka CTR T3x in 308 out today, I test fired 3 rounds of PPU M80 just to see how it shot. Terrible!!!
Next was five rounds of Honardy Black 168gr A-Max, great group.
Second was Federal Gold Medal Match 175g Matchking, really good but had a flyer on the second round. Third was Honardy Match 168gr BTHP, it didn’t group as good as I remembered, also the barrel was getting warm.

That ain't bad. Dead animal is still dead. I'm really wanting to post in here again. The last time I went to the range was with a rifle with a new scope, new cartridges, bad weather etc. The groups were what they were - nothing pretty, but ok. I think the significant point of this thread is useful groups, not who can shoot the best ones - well, maybe some of that too.

Had a chance to work on load development for my recently aquired Savage 110 BA (pre Stealth) in 300 WM.

40° and windy isn't the best weather to test in but that doesn't stop me. Not my best work but I found out what I needed to know for this test.

Guess I don't have a picture of the gun handy but testing 208gr ELDMs over H1000.

I still need to do my range report for the recently aquired Chiappa Rhino in 357 Magnum but figure I can show some groups from it.

First set is offhand double action at 15 yards using factory ammo and a red dot sight. The lowest mark is my target holding nail but it put three rounds into one hole.

This decent group prompted me to get a little more serious with the testing.

Second group is 15 yards and double action as well but with a bipod and rear rest. Guess I didn't mark the 6th hole in the cluster on my app. Five went into one hole though. Not sure if I pulled the errant shot or not but still counting it.

I will save the 100 yard groups for the write up......
