Ok I’m somewhat of a knife snob. I usually will not buy a foreign made knife, but have on occasion, weak moment. And of course would’nt DREAM of actually carrying a junk knife! (says with nose stuck up)

The funny thing is, while I have many nice knives in my workshop, I usually reach for the POS because I don’t want to F up a good knife. I also leave a POS or two in the truck just in case I leave my EDC knife behind in a senior blonde moment.

    Some of the craptacular knives^^^

Won’t even consider using these metal on metal! ^^^

Have any of you been in a tough situation where all you had was an el cheapo that surprised you in it's performance .....like stranded in BFE, forgot your good knife on deer hunt, etc?

    Change my attitude, please!

The Walther multi tool which I bought for shits and giggles has proven itself quite useful for minor gunsmithing jobs.

My daily do-everything is a Mini Griptillian, and it gets way more than its fair share of abuse. If I'm gonna buy it, I'm gonna use it, and I just might break it. So far it's holding up quite well, but it looks like it's been through some rough patches. Which, uh, includes a little 'welding mishap' when I used the blade to pry off the caps on some 12V lead acid battery packs in a UPS, and accidentally crossed the terminals. ;)

I have a bunch of cheap knives that I use all the time and have held up nicely, even when using them as a pry bar, just waiting for it to snap. One of the better cheapies was actually a free one that came from Grizzley tobacco Co, good balance, heavy and keeps a nice edge. Some will dull just by breathing on em though, but they still have their uses.

Years ago I found an El Cheap-O folding knife at the beach. Its one of those $5 Pakistan specials you buy at the counter of the Stop&Rob.
Brought it home and sanded off the rust and corrosion. Threw it in the tool box.
Every so often when I need to cut some poly rope I use a propane torch to heat the blade red hot to cut the ropes.
So I guess I got my monies worth! LoL.

    In the woods...
After I broke the tip off my $100 plus Spyderco, I started carrying Remington liner locks I found on clearance for about $7 each. I bought 4 or 5 at once. I carried the first, every single day for about three years. I replaced it with #2 about six months ago. Nothing wrong with the first one except it looked like Shiite. I threw it into one of my glove boxes.

I can cut, chop, pry, and it keeps going. Once even bent it so bad I had to straighten it back out with the vice. AND it holds a decent edge.

My requirements for a pocket knife include one-hand operation. This one does it. Cheap? No. Inexpensive? Yes.

If your 100+ dollar knife breaks for any reason it's a piece of shit. I have a 20 dollar Kabar Dozier. I rented a room to a guy that would frequently buy 400+ dollar knives and said that anyone who bought those knives and didn't use them was an elitist idiot who didn't understand they were tools. He worked on an oil rig.

I have been very happy with my $15 Dewalt from HD. I cut about everything with it and it keeps on going.

I am not at all a knife snob. My most expensive was about $80. I lost it and bought this Dewalt as a cheap substitute until I could replace it. I haven't seen any reason not to keep carrying it.

Had an El-CheapO knife from Home Depot as well.
    Mine was a red Milwaukee.
    Worked good.
Sure as shit some azzhole at work stole it out of my desk.

Gerber Paraframe. One handed, weighs nothing, tight, hard blade. Had it long enough the serrations are gone. Pryed with it, screwdrivered with it etc, much less cut. Cut lead a lot and have cut sheet metal with it. Still goin, no nicks or snaps either.

There are cheap knives, and then there are cheaply made knives. I won't buy the latter. A well designed knife made of a decent steel, even one made in China, will work just fine for your average day to day activities. I don't expect a 3" folder to cut through a tire or any other unreasonable and unrealistic materials. It works just fine for rope, paper, and plastic though. I use my knives, but I don't abuse them.

My go to knife changes occasionally, but the OKC RAT 2, OKC Utilitac II, and the Kershaw Cryo have all served me well and have never let me down. The Kershaw is my current daily carry.

This little beauty saved me when I was on the International Space Station. We had the CO2 scrubber go out and were all gasping for breath. No one had the right tool to adjust the Fetzer valve. Then as the CO2 lever was getting to toxic levels, and I started to hallucinate, thinking of my beloved family back on earth, I bumped by hand on my pocket and realized that in my knife was a Fetzer valve tuning tool. This knife saved my life.

I use my foreign junkers for daily work use. So far my little Ally HK knife has been the toughest of my junkers. It doesn't hold edge very well, but it's pretty tough as I use mine to open paint cans and bang on things. I do keep my DPX H.E.S.T on hand in my truck EDC bag.
