That's why I warn people that go to the TGT meets, that it can be quite addictive shooting others cool guns.Yeah, I'm not one to ask anyway.
I probably haven't taken any of my rifles to shoot more than a handful of times in the last 30+ years.
Come on man. Everybody’s doing it.And you are the pusherman that got me wanting to upgrade mine, I just went a different route.
Model?
.... I do have to agree with a few other posters here that maybe that original rifle is best kept as is, like a classic truck. I have a feeling that won't be the only 10/22 you ever own.
Yeah, you'll get better accuracy with a free floated barrel.Plain Jane, as she sits, can be reverted back to factory stock in about 10mins. I’ve been careful to keep all the original bits/pieces.
If barrel wins, I’ll end up with another receiver by then end of the year for the new barrel.
The challenge with Plane Jane is she’s a carbine with the barrel band. That means there’s limited choices for an in-stock barrel upgrade.
I appreciate your thoughts and input.
I'd start with the RPR and get some glass and couple cheap bolt/mag upgrades. It's done at that point. I doubt I'll ever be overqualified to shoot that configuration. The only 10/22 I'd go further on is a takedown model as not many manufacturers offer that configuration. I have a brand new never fired carbine I'll probably put up for sale to fund my RPR.
You have to seriously try to wear out a 10/22 barrel. I have actually done it.I would say the barrel as it sounds like after 30 years it may possibly be worn out so a new barrel could be the biggest improvement.
I would have to say that 300,000 rounds is quite a bit of enjoyment. You have to seriously try to wear out a 10/22 barrel. I have actually done it. View attachment 160528 300,000+ rounds
Glad you got out and had some fun with it. The little stuff goes a long way with the 10/22. Optics, barrel, correct stock for you, trigger, they will all add up...
...
It's undeniable, you WILL spend money to make a 10/22 a shooter but it is pretty, dang, rewarding, along the way. In that thread from years ago, several people with anschutz, savages and other rifles never beat my score high scores...
I could appreciate a bolt rifle purchase myself but if I did I'd be going 22mag or 17HMR. Probably CZ
