Everybody likes a gun story right? For the TLDR folks, I bought a $50 pistol 8 yrs ago. For everyone else:

Back in 2011 I was working as a home delivery driver for a big box store. My coworker and I got to go all across East Texas delivering TVs, washers, dryers, refrigerators, etc. It was a fun job, but the most fun was the trip back. We made it a habit to stop at every pawn shop and gun store we could find. This normally led to one of us buying a gun every month.

One particular trip took us to Rusk. After our delivery we made a stop at a pawn shop to take a look. I came across an ugly 9mm pistol with a $75 price tag. The Hi-point C9. While chatting with the owner of the shop, I was informed the pistol was junk. It wouldn't make it through a full magazine. It had between a hundred and a million rounds through it. It had never been cleaned.

My coworker told me he owned a Hi-Point and he knew exactly how to fix it. With all my trust put in my coworker I offered the shop owner $50, which he immediately accepted. His "no haggling" approach made me wonder if I had bought a paperweight.

We decided to take it straight to the range after work to try it out. It performed exactly as described. Jam-o-matic. So then we drove the roll pin out and assessed the situation. This was the dirtiest pistol I had ever seen. Junk was caked on every part of the pistol between the slide and frame.

We cleaned the gun up, tweaked the magazine feed lips, and drive the roll pin back in. 8 years have gone by and it still hasn't malfunctioned.

When I bought the pistol it had a smashed up rear "ghost ring" sight on it. I called to see what Hi-Point would do for me and they gave me the option of getting a new "ghost ring" or new standard rear sight. I opted for the standard sight. 3 days later I received 2 new rear sights and all the tools required to replace them, free.

This has been my go-to pistol for testing my reloads and any "questionable" 9mm rounds. It's an ugly brick but it's tough.

HiPoints are good, they're just big and heavy and ugly. Customer service is tops. One of the HiPoint guys bought a carbine at a garage sale for a few bucks and it was totally burned up in a house fire. Sent it in and a couple months later he got the same one back in like new condition.

And the carbines are a blast to shoot. Cant knock em.

    I have a HP 9mm carbine.

    I've shot it repeatedly, maybe a 1000 rounds....I don't know, I don't count....

It's never ever failed and it's remarkably accurate.

    Is it pretty?

Not in the conventional sense, but it's so ugly it's pretty... If you don't get that I understand.....because I too didn't until I did....

Likewise. I have a brace of 9's and 45's. The pistols I shot just to see what they are like and now they hide in the safe. The carbines are both a blast and quite accurate. My boy put a round through the same hole one day at 7yds freehand standing. The 45 isnt even loud, just goes "CHUNK". I dont even wear ears when I shoot it.

The C9 pistol I utilize when traveling across lines. Never know when it might get taken away or accidently jump out the window into a river. Crazy ass guns.

The C9 is ok to shoot. The 45 shoots well but weighs something like 25-30 lbs. Its pretty ridiculous. (I guess I could get it out and weigh it) My wife shoots 45 and she cant even hold it up.

I dont mind folks knockin em but you can sure tell when someone has never shot one.

I have a JHP (.45ACP pistol), and have owned a 9mm carbine before. Got the .45 for $60 with a decent case... I also used it for reload testing, but haven't had it out in years.

They painted silver stripes on it, probably hoping to make it less ugly. That didn't work.
