    San Antonio!
OK, a quick overview as I just got back from a night shoot down south and I still cannot feel my toes...

My son and I did go to this show today, and while it may have potential and is growing, at this moment it is just not worth the time or money to attend. The lack of gun vendors was noticeable (it appeared to be more of a knife show) and it had the same ratio of non-gun vendors as SAXET or Premier. Plus, entry was $6 which just isn't worth it for a 250+/- table show. The promoter is trying to turn this into a monthly event; but based on this morning's attendance they've got a long way to go to sustain that.

Trust me, I am not the biggest fan of SAXET but you cannot disagree that it is the most successful gun show going in San Antonio. It seems to be the same stuff every month, but there's always a line to get in and it's crowded. Premier is a great show and brings in different vendors, but it lost some of its momentum after the extended hiatus due to the county's raising the cost of using the Freeman Expo Center. Premier has done everything to offset this but they cannot operate on a minimum profit as they have been doing. But trying to add another show to the mix has proven to be a bad idea as learned by Liberty and Texas Gun Shows. This market is just too saturated with the two large events. There's little chance that we'll go back to the Austin Highway show again anytime soon, it will have to improve dramatically to make it worth the time and effort. YMMV.

    San Antonio!
Could someone who has been recently provide a list of the gun vendors who were there? I see RR Guns was there. Who else?

Ummmm, let see what I can remember....Ranger Firearms (http://www.rangerfirearmsoftexas.com/) was there (right next to RunnerRunner if I am not mistaken); as was the guy who has all the German WWII memorabilia that is always at the Premier show...

Buddy Howell had some tables set up on the upper level. There was also a vendor with a small selection of military items....

Both images from the promoter's Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/Austinhwygunshow). Might want to ask if she will provide a list.

By the way, I noticed that their ad says entry was $6; I think someone confused this show with SAXET, which is only $5 but they do charge for parking!

That is the first gun show I have been to since March '13.

There was an outfit out of Broken Bow, Oklahoma that had the most impressive selection of AR Uppers I've ever seen at any gun show. The vendor was not too happy with the turn out.

I don't need another AR or upper.

Love's was there, and he always had tables at the old Airport Convention Center and at Marbach.

Not one magazine or optics vendor, nor was there anyone to sell reloading supplies or quality military surplus.

The old fart that collects/sells NAZI memorabilia was the same old.

On the radio, the advertisement said "free parking and half price admission for active duty military and retired."

Parking was free, but my ID card only got me a one dollar discount.

The old Live Oak show was far better than this new one on Austin Highway in Dirty 'Ol SA.

    Be well.

    San Antonio!
OK, reviving this old thread because I have seen commercials for this show and was wondering if anyone has been in the past three years and can give an honest assessment as to whether it's the same old tired shit or has actually grown into something worth the time and money?

To be honest, I have lost my enthusiasm for gun shows since Premier left. Where we used to hit SAXET regularly now it's rare that we go at all (once or twice a year). It simply is the same crap and while it's nice to see some old friend there, there really isn't anything enticing us to go back.

Again being honest, I don't expect Austin Highway has gotten any better either. It simply cannot compete and sadly gun shows in San Antonio in general are nothing that they once were. I never thought I would have this opinion, as I used to relish going to them; but it is what it is!

    Cheers! M2

I haven’t been to any guns shows since the fall of 2016, and that was Saxet. We may have some mutual friends/acquaintances.

Part of that is due to the wandering I’ve been doing lately, and part of it is the connections I had have passed or no longer participate.

I used to hit Austin quite a bit when I was at Ft Hood from 10-13, since Jim Minton was still active, and I’ve known him since I was old enough to walk.

I got a chance to catch up with him at a funeral last spring and he’ll soon be with the lord. His wife worked with my mother for many, many years and her health is better though.

That's why I go to the SAXET but only about 2 or 3 times a year. Looking at the overpriced used guns is fun but sometimes you can find something cool. I have seen a few good deals but you really have to look around.
