My grandfather used a Rolls Razor which is a cross between a straight razor and a safety razor.

The case lid in one side was a honing stone and the bottom was a strop. There was a mechanical mechanism that held the razor head and either honed or stroped it as you move the handle.

I've used my GF's and it works well. You can get them on ebay.

In today's dollars they sold for about $160 or so. Originally $12.50.

If you get one make sure the stone is not broken and the edge is not nicked.

Several times in the past I had thought about using a straight razor. I have never shaved myself with one, but the few times I went to a barber for a shave they used one. I remember how nice my face felt afterwards and the fact that I didn't need to shave for a few days after made me think I should. I have a Gillette Fusion, but after their stance I now have now really gotten serious about switching. The more I have been researching, the more I really want one, kinda like buying a new knife. I have used double edge razors, but never really cared for them. So, in about a week from now, bye bye disposable razors.

You are a brave soul!!!!!! I hope you will have someone post results on here !! (Just in case of a mishap you understand)

Like I said, I have been researching and watching a lot of videos. You should lay the flat of the blade on the face and take short strokes at first. It is a bit slower than using double edge or disposable, but they say that once you start, you won't want to go back.

I talked to my barber about a straight razor shave. She’s a great person and has said she’s willing to teach.

I’ll be buying her husband (a barber and great person in general) some unique bourbon in return.

Cool. Have you gotten a straight razor?

Katie's a great barber! - I was very sad when she moved out of her shop in Kerrville, here to Boerne's just a little too far for a trim...…...unless I combine it with a truck service and lunch at "Peggy's"

I'm still using the Schick Slim Twin disposables that I sold 30 years ago when I worked for Warner-Lambert Company. When I left the company, I kept some of the sales samples that I had and they've lasted me this long - probably good for another 20 years lol - I don't shave every day and use an electric trimmer thing a lot too instead of shaving skin-close. I never have liked Gillette. And this just cements that feeling with me.

What the hell has happened to corporate America that they think this kind of crap is a good idea? They don't seem to learn from the likes of Dicks Sporting Goods, etc....

Well, I have pretty much narrowed down what razor and supplies I want and will probably order on Friday. Been learning a lot about shaving the last few days.

I saw what they did there. The subtle, those that aren't clean shaven are the bullies and sexists, makes me not want to not shave out of protest. Businesses that aren't in business to sell politics should stick to selling their product and stay out of politics. It's getting to the point it's hard to keep track of which have an agenda.

Her is a way to keep track of the companies that are and are not our friends. 2ndVote.com
