I'm looking at two 9mm handguns. The CZ 75 and the Beretta PX4 Storm both in the full size build. I've test fired the CZ 75. Having problems finding a Beretta to test and its the one I'm kinda leaning towards. Here's what I'm trying to found out about the PX4 Storm. I've heard or seen reports that the rotating barrel of the storm, designed to soften the recoil, causes the firearm to kick to the left when fired. Not so sure I would like that. Any input in regards to this would be appreciated. Thanks in Advance.

My opinion of them from experience is they work fine but are slippery to me. That sounds extreme. Maybe I should say they don’t grip well. Do it op lol buy the cz. It is better IMO

My Sig/Mauser M2 has a rotating barrel and it does no such thing. Less felt recoil than my full-sized 1911 (weighs about the same though), but no kicking to the side. Sometimes I manage to double tap the 8.8 lbs trigger and both bullets go into the exact same hole.

Hey, I bought the full size Storm 9mm at a pawn shop here in DFW about three months ago, mostly because there is so much hype about the platform over on pistol-forum.com, the research Ernie Langdon has done, etc. I have seen both of those claims- the perceived lower recoil and a potential for rotating barrels to change shots in some way. I never found either to be true (that I could tell). I will say it is very accurate. It’s already sitting in my safe, if that means anything? The Storm didn’t do anything a lot of other platforms don’t already do IMHO.

I have one in .45, never noticed it kicking to the left. I've owned Cougars in the past, that have the same rotating barrel system, and the same for them. And honestly, it's the first time I've heard of anyone saying such.

With that said, wouldn't mind adding a CZ to the coral now that you mention it. :)

I've owned both. The PX4 by far is a softer and nicer on the hand shooter. The CZ75, I bought one back from Germany when I was stationed there in the 80s then stupidly sold it, feels solid and shoots good, but there's hardly enough gripping space on the slide for me and my older hands.

The PX4 is another mistake I made. Sold it to help buy a cowboy action 1873 clone in the 2000s when I was active in SASS. I did rectify it slightly by getting a Stoeger 8000F, the all metal version that Beretta made until they developed the PX4. Both the PX4 and the Stoeger are softer shooting than the Tristar 100 that is essentially a CZ75 clone.

I'll add one caveat, I'm talking about the full-size PX4 not the compact. Don't know how that'll shoot with such a short barrel.

If you're ever up to NW Austin, we can shoot the Stoeger if you like to try it out.

I have both the PX4 full size in 9mm and a CZ 75 SP-01 Tactical in 9mm. I absolutely love both guns, and they would be the last two pistols I would sell if I had to. You can't make a bad choice between them.

The PX4 is indeed a soft shooting gun, and I'm convinced the rotating barrel has something to do with it. It is also very accurate and has been 100% reliable. I have never experienced the kick to the left you describe. My PX4 is equipped with a laser/light combo and is my bedside gun, so I guess you can say I trust my life to it.

The CZ is also very soft shooting, mainly due to its considerable heft. It is also extremely accurate and is just simply a pleasure to shoot. There is something very satisfying and reassuring about feeling the heft of that pistol in my hand.

I have a storm in 40sw, great gun. I cannot tell any difference in recoil. It is very accurate. Safety is hard to push off and it uses 2 steel tabs for rear slide runners, noticed some wear there. It's the bedside gun so not much use as the XDm range toy.

The first pistol I bought myself was a 9 mm Storm. Excellent pistol. Very soft shooting. I just never got over how fat it was in my hand. I've never been able to shoot Berettas worth a crap. All on me though. I sold it, but I'd like to have it again now that I'm more experienced .

I have a PX4 in .40 S&W. It's one of the finest shooting pistols I've ever come across. I've never noticed any "pulling" because of the barrel. My neighbor tried my PX4 and bought one for himself the next weekend.

Yep we have a Storm 9 and it’s a great shooter. My wife and I both used this pistol to complete our CC course.

Yes, my wife outscored me on the shooting.

We both enjoy shooting this pistol and I don’t plan to sell mine. No experience with the CZ.

I have the PX4 in .45, and like others have never noticed a left kick. It also comes with three different grip backs so you can adjust for your grip.

Since you're in Houston, go down to the Arms Room, in League City. They will probably have a PX4 for rental to try out. They did when I was shopping several years ago.

I picked up a compact PX4 9mm as part of a trade a few years ago without really thinking much about it. Was just a good deal for me. Then I ended up absolutely loving the thing. Liked it so much that I ended up buying the full size in Inox when I saw it on sale for my nightstand gun. Both have been phenomenal and are great shooters and extremely accurate. Low recoil and have never noticed the kicking to the left thing you mentioned at all.

Can't comment on the CZ since I've never owned or shot one, but have a good friend who's retired LEO who really likes them. Probably can't go wrong with either, but I'd give the PX4 my recommendation based on my experience.
