In Brazil, yes they target security guards. And cops. And soldiers. Usually not a lone attacker though. Usually gangs that are already better armed than their prey and the people there are disarmed so they are no help. To reach that point here they would have to disarm the population.
At this point in America, gangs out number cops. And in many instances are at least as well armed as most cops. One of the things that keeps them in check is an armed society that my well resort to vigilante justice if needed. As long as they pretty much stay where most people don't notice their behavior, most will tend to ignore them. If they tried the same shit here as in Brazil, it would be a different story altogether.
That is one of the reasons THEY want US disarmed? Criminals from the street up can then do as they please.

Maybe. Policing is not what it use to be. Who would think we would have elected communists and socialists in office.... and here we are. Do I think we will see more of this? I think so but the armed citizen needs to prepare for this is all I am saying. I ,ean it isnt like a CC carrier has never lost a gun to a bad guy either. Sounds like the guy was an asshat anyway. Is he on the forum, do we know?

A basic truth for me, if you carry a firearm you better plan on using it if the situation arises.

Seems to me the kid should have shot the grabber. Plain and simple.

Sounds like he was in that position more to make a statement and meet girls than to actually use the 2A for its intended purpose. Idiot is lucky to be alive.

Brazilians Target security guards for the gun and I would guess that will eventually happen here with OC'ers. Still an infrequent occurrence and if it does happen the OC'er should have a plan to deal with it. It won't change anything for me. We all make choices on how much risk we will manage.

Good point about risk management, Sharkey. As with most choices in life, how we carry comes down to which risks we are willing to manage and which benefits matter most to us.

Oddly enough, people die all the time in cars with ABS, TCS, wearing seatbelts and with more airbags than at a Scottish piper festival. Shit happens no matter how many actions you take to prevent it.

Plus, stupid hurts; and it's always better to be lucky than good. Melvin F. Bogus is lucky he isn't full of holes.

All that said, it's a good article because it might get some OC'ers to think about the possibilities of how badly things can go...

Said the carrier also had a shotgun, two pistols a machete and a large knife? That just screams tacticool Ninja type.

I liked the article. I did balk a little at the suggestion that when open carrying and in a group, that not all guns need to be loaded.

First of all, who goes around in a group? And what is the good of having an unloaded gun?

Other than that I thought the article was pretty good.

I always drain the fuel from my vehicles when I put them in the garage at night!!! It is safer that way and the car won't 'catch-fire' if the battery is disconnected also. (note that the sarcasm switch is ON)

I agree that an unloaded gun is fairly useless.

Some good ideas here. I'm taking notes.

I personally prefer to CC. I don’t like the attention that OC brings, I would rather have the element of surprise if I had to use it.

LE is taught AD NAUSEAM they are a target. Cops don't appreciate, enjoy, or otherwise want to be a target; its kind of a shi*** feeling, and puts you on edge at times. It changes your perspective of people in general, and affects how you interact with them, sometimes negatively. I'd venture to say its a bit depressing, too, having to always operate like someone wants to kill you.

And then there are those who, apparently solely because they have the right, volunteer to be a target. Never understood that.
