I had a hound dog named Freckles.
We roamed the countryside on foot and paw. He proved I sucked at hide and seek. I learned that an animal can be a better companion than most humans.

He got ran over at a pretty young age.
I reckon I was pretty young too.
Nonetheless, he made a lasting impression on me.
Kinda like a scar that never fades.

Yeah, Freckles was one of my favorite things from my youth.

Roaming the back hills and woods behind my house for hours with my friends with no parental supervision. It was California in the early 90s so the stereotypical kid toting the .22 and bucket of bullets was absent but it was still a great place to grow up.

Then when I was about 11 my dad got me one of these. Are they dangerous in the hands of an 11 year old? Hell yeah they are but looky here I'm alive to tell the stories. That thing took me all over my town when I was growing up. I would take it 13 miles in ditches & side roads to get to my girlfriend's house in 7th grade... she was a 8th grader & well worth the trip :green:

I had 3 different mini bikes growing up.

I also had many opportunities to go shooting and hunting with my dad. Places where most people couldn't.
I still love mini bikes. I also had one at a young age. Now I buy and fix them up whenever I run across a cheap one. Just fixed these up last summer. About time to find some more.

Me too though not CA. We would leave the house on weekends or summer days and wouldn't come home until dinner time. Thinking about it now, I don't ever remember every planning anything either. You would just get into the woods, on foot or bike, and figure it out from there. So I guess my answer to the OP is that I miss the freedom of being that young.
