So, now that I'm over 40 and half way to the grave, I have become a little more spendy when it comes to my new gun purchases. I've been eyeballing Smith's Performance center guns for years now, dreaming of a handy lil' snub or a 327.

After a bit of research and about a thousand dollars, I finally have one on the way. A brand new TRR8. I went back and forth a bit but couldn't pass this one up. I had read all about the R8s polygonal rifling and how the tensioned barrel nuts tend to work loose.

Somehow, the positive overcame the negative and I will now own a second S&W scandium alloy framed handgun. The other is a fairly rare 1911sc in stainless. Anyhow I'm hoping to hear nothing but good things about these but I'm willing to take the good with the bad.

Feel free to share your experiences and criticisms here.

I owned a TRR8 years ago. Great gun just like you'd expect. 8 rounds at a time was nice plus running the included moon clips that you can load with your bare fingers is a good bonus.

The ease of mounting an optic or light is a really cool feature.

Found something I wanted more and off it went.

    You will enjoy it.

I'm waiting for one to pop up at my lgs. I have a 340pd and a 327pc. I like them both and carry them when I dont carry my 1911s.

They're neat guns and I wouldn't mind having one but there are just too many others ahead of it on the wish list.

This one is mine. Has nice sights on it but I hung a C-More sight on it (because of old eyes) along with a Houge extended cylinder release. Shoots very well and trigger isn't too bad and getting better the more I shoot it. If the "Hillary" hole bothers you that much somebody makes a plug which replaces it.

Will one of you gents explain what a hillary hole is?
The lock on the side near the cylinder release. A supplied key locks the gun up.

There are rumors that the locks can engage during firing but if it does happen it isn't very often.

Some shooters are still a little upset about that addition.
