My wife and I accidently drove in to Illinois one time. We got off track on a loop. We both have Texas CHL's and we both had guns with us. We sweat blood trying to find a way out.
With a Texas CHL, you were legal in IL as long as you kept your guns concealed and inside the car.
I have been looking and there is not many places that are very friendly to guns. Even worse the same are downright unfriendly to outsiders moving into their domain. Many places are not too open to my collection in general. Like some forums don't cotton to my interference even if I am here to help... anyone!
I post some pictures of my junk looking for questions and discussions about the particulars not to impose anything just sharing for the fun of it.
Unfortunately in the People's Gulag of Illinois carry permits from any other state are not recognized here. Soon there will be serious cutback in permits in Illinois. My current CCW for Illinois is due to expire March 1st. I have applied for a renewal two months ago. I have completed the required retraining, range qualifications, instructor fees and license fees and it is on hold, pending "review" by local law enforcement agencies where I live. If there is ANY question by local police departments my application will be denied and an appeal process can be opened that can take up to a year.
Illinois permits are tough to get and even tougher to renew. The Enforcement Task Group has been downsized to an office of only SIX personnel for the entire state.
Our new Socialist Governor, Comrade Commissar JB Pritzker is rumored to be sitting on any new and renewals of CCW permits pending regulation and restrictions.
Oh, in Illinois if you are from another state and have a gun in your possession, it must be in a locked container, not in reach of the driver, disassembled (bolt, magazine removed) and ammunition must be in a separate container also. Stay out of Chicago and Cook County!
Interesting.... I didn't know there was such a thing. Illinois did not have ANY Concealed Carry until 2014 for citizens. We were the very last State to get permitting unless you were retired law enforcement!
Do not come North of Peoria! Do not bring a gun... you cannot carry here. Illinois does NOT recognize any other state's permits. If you do bring one it must be kept is a locked case UNLOADED! Be careful....... I have two FFL's and I am very wary going to and from museums that I work for. And I stay away from Chicago even if I have to drive 50 miles out of my way.
When I decided to travel the United States on my motorcycle, I decided to follow as much of Route 66 as I could. Even then when I got about 50 miles from Chicago, I decided that was far enough and turned around.

Hi Mad John, yes since IL FCCL went into effect, one of the things it authorized was that if you were a non-resident with a resident CCL from your home state, you could concealed carry inside your vehicle, you just couldn't get outside with it, except in a locked case.
IL also provides for non-resident CCLs if you are a resident of a "substantially similar" state. Four states have been recognized as such including Texas, so I got one.
I've not yet had a dealing with IL LEO yet, but reading anecdotes on the IllinoisCarry forum, LEOs have generally been favorable to CCLers.

Bullets flying around are just part of living in The Gulag. Safety here is only what you get used to, r can tolerate. law enforcement is only for certain groups or locations. In the "barrio" where I live calling the police is better known as "take a number and wait" maybe yes and maybe no. Do not hold your breath. Bullets buzzing around are not really the problem.... BUT ... getting shot really tends to screw-up your day. Getting stabbed on the other hand, hurts like a sumbitch! The missus ans I just hunker down, stay indoors after dark and never travel alone. The wonderful local gestapo has seen fit to deny my concealed carry renewal.

If you study the politics in Illinois, it is strange that one city, Chicago, controls the thrust of gun control. Well, I shouldn't say strange, it is a democrat run city in a democrat run state with a democrat run legislature. What could be more perfect.
