After spending a great deal of money and effort to obtain legal SBRs, the arm braces seem to offer nearly the same thing... or do they?

It seems that more and more pending legislation is attempting to change this. Recent legislation discussions have discussed reverting rifle caliber pistols to NFA laws.

Does that mean that they will create criminals out of the law abiding citizens that purchased them? I find it unlikely that there will be any grandfathering of these previously purchased firearms.

There are a few firearms that I might purchase with an arm brace. It seems that they could become essentially worthless with a little change in law.

    What do you think?

    Out here by the lake!
I have 2 AR lowers set up with braces that I assembled. If it change I'll change too. The only reason I have then was to put upper for my registered receiver M16 on them.

It is hard to predict what the new liberal congress will actually do. With all of the proposed legislation, some of it is bound to make its way through.
There also sounds like there is less tolerance for “grandfathering” in previous purchases, or prior ownership.
Hopefully clear and logical thinking will prevail. Who am I kidding this is Congress....

I've recently been thinking about the braces. While I think they're a great idea I don't use one because I feel like I'd be violating the law because I would intend to use it like a stock. I'd be more comfortable and will apply for a stamp and just make it an sbr

Yep, we only have what?...like another week?...to the end of that line.
I'm hoping we'll get a restraining order in time. If we don't, I need to consider taking mine to the ATF downtown and getting a receipt so that I'll have standing in future legal actions.

I'm wondering how an SBR is 'all that much superior' to my 16" barrel AR15?

I have collapsible stocks on them and when they are collapsed they're pretty darn short and can still be used quite effectively even collapsed.

Or, is it really, when you get down to it, SBR's are a fad?

If not, I gotta wonduh, how often do folks carry SBR's in cars, cuz hey man, they're very tactical in cars cuz they short and can be quickly deployed here in iraq/afghanistan, I mean Merica, doncha know?

Or, are they for preppers for when the shtf scenarios or what?

It doesn't matter what the need or want for an SBR is. The facts are the NFA is unconstitutional and the laws regarding SBR's should not exist. Braces should never have been invented except for what they are currently marketed for.

I do not think anything is going to change anytime soon.

    I agree with Renegade.

I've got several SBRs and several pistols with braces, and I'm not messing with the mix. They each have their purpose.
