    Per Moonpie's request, here's my S&W 642.
    20190326_162017.jpg

Ran some 158gr Geco fmj and some hornady critical defense 110gr.

    My initial thoughts:

    1. Its gonna take me a little bit to get used to shooting a DAO revolver, especially the trigger.
    2. Speaking of trigger. This is the smoothest heavy trigger I've ever shot.
    3. Clean brass! And I didn't lose any!
    4. This little revolver made me slow down. I can put 100 rounds down range with an autoloader in the blink of an eye. 60 rounds over the course of 30 minutes shooting with this J Frame.

Now for the results. 10 yards. 60 shots. It's clear to see this is my first time shooting a DAO revolver. My 2 shots on the bottom left were my first 2.

Oh and excuse the rips in some of the bullet holes. I tried to remove the target from the cardboard and...well...you can see what happened.

Wilson combat makes a nice spring kit. I have one in my 340pd and 686+. They are inexpensive, easy to install and havent failed me yet. And if you dont like it you can take it back out in 5 min.

I've got a J frame .357 double action only. I love it. Got a "Hip Grip" grip on it and often carry it hooked on my belt. Best thing is, it will not fire unless you pull the heavy trigger. Extremely comfortable carrying that way.

My J has a hammer. Makes a group easier to make. Most practice should be double action anyway. The little guns can be very accurate.
For the first time out, that's one good looking target. I doubt you will have much of a learning curve.
Try not to stage the trigger. make the whole pull one fluid motion.

30+ years ago when shooting @ the Brazos River turnaround was still doable in Sugarland a buddy had a pos RG.38 snub nose. We were shooting from atop the river bank nailing a log on the opposite side floating down the river. Never did see how it shot like it was meant to be shot.

Those little wheelguns talk to the hand after a box of shells. ITs all minute of perp so it's good. I had some wheelguns but I didn't shoot them much. Then I enrolled in a local Homeland Security Course. Part of the Course was pistol and shotgun qualification. The instructor was a retired state trooper who worked for a local sheriffs department. He had us start with S&W Revolvers. The hammers were all chopped off. He was not a big fan of hammers. Learned to shoot pretty decent in DAO mode. I wished I had started with a DAO revolver when learning to shoot. Would have made life easier with a Semi-Auto Pistol some of which are Double Action.

Here is the original Centennial and the modern Centennial. They both get considerable WalkAbout time. Only a few changes over the decades.

BigWheel needs to see what a target is supposed to look like.

I like my J frame too. It has crimson trace laser grips. After a 50 round box my hand feels it and makes shooting any other pistol harder. This obviously means I need more practice.

Love my 1911's, but my S&W .38 spl J Frame (an older Mod 38) sees more outside the safe time than any firearm I own ... provides an all around measure of comfort when carrying/traveling.

Mines as well, as you can see from the pocket lint that covers mine. Notice were my American Bulldog chewed the grips. It was in a jacket pocked that he got the pistol & Kramer holster out of,

    A couple of S&W’s. M36 and PD351.
The Ruger is a .327 that tagged along.
