I'm hearing all over the news that we just recently took out the last ISIS stronghold. Whats the catch? Did they move somewhere else? These are the same people who it seems like just a year or two ago were hearding 1000's of people down city streets to mass their mass graves. The same people who I saw put a bomb in a helmet, strap it to a guys head, and toss him off a parking garage, hitting the ground head first. The same guys who have set children on fire in cages.

Did we really finally get the green light to shut them down? If so, can someone give me the beautiful details on how it was done? Carpet bombs? Napalm? Unleash 5,000 hungry pit bulls on a compound?

You, of all people, should already know that banner was about the ship accomplishing its mission and not something put there by the Bush administration. Don't perpetuate the fake news.

Firstly, I was 18 or 19 when that speech was made. My politics and interest in following the ins and outs of mainstream media were very different then. It’s a meme now. Nothing more really. Like calling all the Cortez memes “fake news”. FWIW, I didn’t know that was the reason for the banner, see beginning of paragraph. Looked it up based on your comment. But I still feel it’s nothing more than a meme these days.

    2. “End to major combat operations in Iraq”. Still fits with my sentiments on “ISIS has been destroyed” or whatever is in the OP.

REad an article referenced here last week maybe, and they had been pushed to a single city. And yes, allegedly the gloves came off under Trump, and they were killing the shit out of the turds.

I may have been wrong in what I posted before. I just did a search and found this:
https://www.usnews.com/news/blogs/press-past/2013/05/01/the-other-symbol-of-george-w-bushs-legacy which claims that Bush regretted putting the banner up. I sure don't remember it that way and would have sworn that it was claimed to have been put up by the ship about the ships mission, and not Bush.

I’m really not sure. At the time I wasn’t all that in to politics. I will certainly try to look in to it more.

Given the state of news coverage since I have paid attention I wouldn’t be surprised at all if the coverage was misleading. His speech however did imply that Iraq was basically wrapped up. I think he truly believed it at the time.

To me it seems rather off that the ship would put up the banner for a single deployment, but I don’t know that much about Naval customs either.

They remind me of rats. put great working traps in trees, houses, ect, kill 20 plus a week, they don’t stop. You might clean your area...for the time being. Their hidden but everywhere.

I just want to hear some of the good stories I'm sure came out of it. My favorite so far is the assault on Baghdad. The video from that night is still a very impressive display of shock and awe. I'm hoping we one-upped ourselves with ISIS.
