I dusted off my foil hat for this? It's not really about what is transparently spent, police, fire, etc., it's about the spending behind doors, although they may let it effect the services rather than change politics.

Politicians always say they need more time and money to fix things. Especially the liberal ones. Money doesn't solve a damn thing. People solve things. When the government gets their paws out of the way with a crapload of laws being removed. Sp the community can solve stuff. The government wants you to feel you need them to run things.

    Rural Wise County, TX.
What’s the name of that town. You might be due for some new neighbors

I live in the County, not in town. I still pay for schools I don't use (never had kids).
I take my trash to the County dump. I have a water well and a septic tank.
A local electric Co-op provides power.

    I don't need anymore gov't.

    motorcarman,

I live in downtown San Antonio & we don't need any more city services, spending OR more taxes either.

What we DO need is MUCH LESS fraud, waste & abuse of the taxpayers.

Those greedy localities raising the tax rate and property values every year at way more than the rate of inflation. Very seldom, if ever, will you be able to sell your property for what the CAD assesses it for. If this bill goes through, you can bet they will increase at the max allowed every year.

Soon, we will be right back where we started. High tax rates and assessments, plus we will have a 9.25% sales tax to deal with. Then your dollar will be worth only 90.75¢. There is no such thing as lower taxes.

Williamson County must have seen this tax cap coming because my latest appraisal reflects a 15.5% tax increase over last year. That is the biggest increase in the last 15 years. Get it while you can.

    That place east of Waco....
The DFW police departments are all over Twitter with this. Waaaah waaah waaaah, don't cap property taxes or we won't be able to protect you anymore! And think of our pensions!
Who have they protected so far? If anything, getting rid of DPD might make things safer for the neighbors in their apartment complex....

    ....too soon?

Bought my house in Round Rock in 2001 for $164k. Now after getting my tax bill they say it is worth $305k. Taxes have gone from around $3600 a year to $8000 a year. Have to sell it and downsize to retire to somewhere less costly in a few years.

Don't get happy. Both the state and local are set to raise sales taxes instead.

I don’t have a prob with that. The majority of groceries aren’t taxed and I’m done with consumerism. More importantly, everything I own is paid for.

Property taxes are an entirely different species of beast. A beast that needs to be reigned the fk in.

Property is not only overvalued by government but the market has gone almost as stupid. Here in Crosby an old single wide trailer on its own lot is somehow worth $150K and more.
California has one good bit of law. The people can force government to put an issue to a vote. in the late 60's they voted in a tax cap called prop. 13. The guy that pushed it through can be seen in the movie Airplane. He is the old man that sits in the taxi the entire movie and runs up a bill of $113. The cap worked for a bit, until work around laws could be passed and turned the state into the cesspool it is today. I don't know that we can ever win.

I’d like to see a tax law requiring than a municipality must purchase a property at 90% of its appraised tax value within 30 days of its appraisal if the value is increased should the homeowner choose to sell. Maybe make it 95%.

Bet they would think twice about those increases.

This was why CA passed Prop 13 those many years ago.

People who back in the day had bought property out in the middle of no where and then retired on it were now surrounded by multi-million dollar homes and being taxed accordingly. Seniors were having to sell their houses because the taxes were more then they made in a year.

Even with Prop13 though I saw my property taxes more then double but at least it took 30yrs to do so.

Property taxes were a key factor (along with property costs in general) in why we ended up in AZ instead of TX. I pay just over $500 a yr for a 2bed/2bath on 36 acres in AZ. And paid just $160K to buy it last year.

Actually Prop13 was passed in 1978.
