So, since the study found around 6% of the population has this so-called "won't get fat gene" it fully explains the 28.1% obesity (BMI >= 30) rate and 62% clinically overweight rate (BMI >= 25)?

Because science, and not at all personal responsibility.

Brains you dont understand. Its the snickerdoodle genetics that are magically making everyone obese. These set of genetics were only activated within the last 50 years though. Totally not the fast food and processed garbage that people pound down their disgusting goiter 3 times a day

Ironic that the "Standard American Diet", arguably responsible for an increase in both obesity/health issues is also correlated to an increase in longevity over the past 100 years? ... (although the correlation is a bit statistically sketchy with the latter, it is still touted).

Boils down to we ain't figured it all out yet ...

We are surrounded by high calorie, nutrient poor, cheap food.
Couple that to the fact that most jobs dont require hard labor or physical exertion and its the recipe for society of morbidly obese people.
If you consistently eat more calories than your body uses, it will store that for later use in the form of fat.

Saying genetics makes you overweight is an excuse

Lots of truth to this, which is why it seems you "have to" join gyms. Nobody works a hard job, and most people seem to prefer sedentary R&R time. So to compensate people pay to do tough things indoors lol.

I have pictures of my ancestors from the 1880s
They look like scarecrows by today's standards
They were all thin and wiry

    Interesting observation.

A good friend who’s a physician is involved in a study on the affects of childhood antibiotics and it’s affect of killing healthy gut flora. They’ve performed fecal transplants on obese people that were administered a regimen of antibiotics to kill all their gut flora and then inoculated with the gut flora of thin people. They lost weight.

I think genetics do play a big part. All of my family ate fried foods every day and weren’t always active. Fried eggs, fried meat, breakfast meats, breads, grains, all the fatty and high glycemic food we eat today. Even breakfast biscuits contained lard and were greased for the pan in bacon or sausage grease.

Most people don’t have eating disorders. I don’t, but I do enjoy food. In a day and age where food was scarce I’d be healthy as my body doesn’t need many calories to stay healthy. The flip side is I have friends that are thin and eat like they have stomachs in their thighs. Some are sedentary and some are active and all couldn’t gain weight if they tried. If I could go to the doc and have my chemistry or genetics manipulated to be thin and healthy AND eat in moderation I’d do it in a heartbeat.
