When I was a kid, there were no plastic straws. We had quality paper straws for shakes etc. They were bigger in diameter than they are now. Worked just fine.

But back then they believed in quality. These days not so much.
And they switched to plastic to keep from killing all those trees.

We just recently ran into them at House of Blues. Paper straws suck. I am old enough to remember going from paper sacks to plastic at the grocery store to save the trees. The City of FtW left me a nasty notice when I tried to recycle plastic bags. It is all a scam.

I spent two weeks in Los Angeles on a consulting job in March. Every place serves these disgusting straws made from recycled paper. I never drink from a glass or cup in a restaurant because I know the servers put their hands on the rim, but I could not put my mouth on those straws without feeling like I was sucking on a toilet paper roll so I just said an extra prayer and drank from the glasses.
