The best burgers I've ever had have been at Pappas Burger

Pappas makes a damn good burger. Beck's Prime is pretty good too. Shame both of those places only accept chunks of gold as payment.

Another place I forgot to mention, Freddy's makes a pretty good fastfood steak burger. They're very thin patties but they're tasty and I think their fries are my favorite fast food fries.

    Benenglish,

At first I thought you were talking about Jax the beer, which has passed into history. Crappy beer so no loss in the beer department.

At one time though, they had the funniest tv commercials.

Ah yes, good 'ol Jax beer. Brewed from muddy Mississippi River water drawn from the river right at the base of Canal Street. Always smelt like fuel oil to me.

For a decent fast food burger, I like Five Guys plus their fries are the best!

The ice house in the little town where I grew up was a small bar in a liquor store attached to a giant freezer that opened both inside and to the parking lot. We'd go in often for block ice to go in coolers when we were hitting the road.

If you bought a bottle of hard stuff and asked for it, they'd give you a small plastic cup with ice so you could enjoy your alcohol on your drive home.

    Things have changed.

    Gunz are icky.
The term “ice house” dated back to pre-refridgeration days when people actually had “ice boxes” in their homes.
These were insualted wood cabinets with metal liners.
Ice was sold at the ice plant in large blocks.
The ice blocks were then placed in the ice box. The cabinet chilled down enough to keep foods cool, preventing spoilage.
Typically an ice block would last about 24 hours.
It was common for folks on their way home after work each day to stop and purchase a block of ice.
Enterprising ice plant owners figured out there was money to be made by also selling already cold bottles of beer and soda.
Soon other snacks appeared. These eventually became the modern C-store.
When I was a kid in S.A. the “ice house” was what everyone knew as the C-store.

If I told you to meet me at the ice house in Fredericksburg would you know where to go? Last time I was there it had not changed in 50 years I know of. Had a father-in-law lived there and everytime I visited we made "the lap". The ice house was one of the stops
