Have relatives in Austin as well, pretty left leaning. There is indeed a reason many of us in other arts of Texas refer to it as Moscow on the Colorado.

You bet. I guarantee the ones who voted for the politicians will have a different opinion when the bums set up camps in their front yard or hip, trendy places they frequent.

The problem isn't so much a homeless one but the laws/rules being put in place are incentivizing the behavior. They pour money into the problem but not the solution. The one good think I heard Houston mayor Turner say a few years ago was don't give money to the panhandlers because it leads to more problems and not solving them.

No, you don't get it. Those ProgLeft idjits will celebrate those vagrants "speaking their truth to power". Whateverthefûck that means.

Walk up to my truck window at a drive through after midnight and it will be a different reaction than the one you gave them;)

But then again, I don’t use drive through.

This was over 20 years ago, and while there certainly was crime in Austin at that time, normally there were 5-10 of us spread between 3 and 5 vehicles, and the drive through and the restaurants were busy at that time of night. Way too many eyes for anything much to have really happened.

The violence and stuff normally happened off of 3rd through 11th street, or ceasar chavez, zilker park, 360 overlook, etc... Back then, I/we had a bad habit of engaging thugs- or more often, posers- up close and personal, and enjoyed it.

Now, I'm not likely to even be OUT much after 8 or 9 pm, and I don't go to night life areas, at all.

Mayor Turner then proceeded to make it illegal for people or Churches to feed homeless unless they have a certified kitchen. Made them even more dependent on government. Shanty towns all over the place now. The dim 0 craps are getting the third world cesspool they want. And brainwashed children of public schools are so prideful of it all. Add in all the trash flowing in from Mexico and you have "useful idiots" on every corner. But your yards look good, until the tents go up as you are commanded to share. Austin will tell us that is the real reason water faucets were installed outside the houses we thought we owned.

I'm not defending Turner by any means. I just picked probably the only thing he said that I agree with.

When people get a hand out of any kind, their GAF (give a f**k) goes way down. They think 'why should I work for my betterment if .gov is going to do all the leg work for me'.

It's a mentality that needs to change.

Been in or around since the 70’s and it’s pretty pathetic to see what is has turned into.

We live about 45 minutes outside of it now and the mentality is flooding out this direction quick. In the last year, the last 3 homes on our street that have been built and sold have been bought by California transplants.

Two months ago I was down at I-35 /6th st frontage road area and thought a concert was happening under the overpass there where all the parking is located due to the sheer number of people hanging out. As I assessed what was going on as I waited at the light I realized it was just the hordes of bums hanging out there. I’ve never seen it like that , was crazy.

Mayor Steve Adler has destroyed Austin and continues to on a weekly basis. It was once upon a time , a really cool place to live and hang out in. I’m sure glad The Governor still cares , though I am pretty sure Texas will turn next election , if not, the following one will seal its fate for sure.

It would be a pretty pathetic forum if it took 6 years to get an answer to a thread.
