Mav did you ever bottle feed a calf? How about having several and each get half a bottle? Try and get that bottle away from the first calf. That's an easy way and doesn't hurt anybody.

Slamming a young calf head first into the ground is ok? I'm sorry, but I can't get behind that. We'll have to agree to disagree on that one. Surely there's a better way.

So what you're saying is, either you're a liberal vegan PETA member, or you have to blindly and quietly go along with animal abuse?

There's no middle ground? You're either one or the other?

Wow, and here I though beliefs were more complex than that.

Not blindly go along with anything. Of course not....not a fan of unneccessary cruelty of any kind.

This is the plan as has been told to me by those who hope to turn the tide. We will show the cruelty in all its worst forms and turn public opinion on human consumption of animals. It also goes hand in hand with the green crowd. They're one in the same and have been for awhile. They show the worst of the worst where even people like you who (I assume) love a good steak start to question it or start threads like this.

    It's PETA 101.

That’s an idiotic response. I’m about as far from a vegan or PETA member as possible. But that doesn’t mean I should tolerate farm animals being treated cruelly.

Damn, don’t any of you tough guys have dogs or cats that you care about? Pigs, cattle, goats and sheep are no different.

Family has ran a pig farm for longer than anyone on this board has been alive by a long shot. And no, I don't have any pets currently by choice. And if I did, they would be different than livestock that's raised for slaughter obviously. Geez......

Only idiots deal in absolutes (like PETA). A few instances of abuse does not mean the whole industry is bad, and speaking out against those few instances does not mean you are anti meat/animal product. There's a middle ground, and most rational people fall somewhere into it. Those that don't are probably a lost cause anyways.

You should question everything. It promotes improvement and gives you a better understanding of the world in general. At least in my opinion it does.

With all the problems we have in this Country....

This one doesn't get much of a response by me.........I have more important things to worry about....

So I guess we agree? Just as in any situation/instance, the worst (or few instances as you call them) are always wrong. Might as well fire up a police brutality vid for your next thread.

I'm working on getting into a career in law enforcement, but I'm sure as hell not going to ignore cases of police brutality or pretend that they don't happen. I will call them out just like I will anything else. Wrong is wrong, and it needs to be called out when it happens. There's a difference between calling out a single instance, and throwing a blanket of condemnation over an entire group. People seem to have lost the ability to see that difference, and it's getting real old real fast.

I will not shy away from calling out wrongs just because some people can't tell that difference.

Good for you and best of luck....I like your attitude and thought process and think you will make a fine LEO, seriously. Well-spoken, seemingly intelligent and thoughtful. It takes a level head to be a good one. But at the same time, you surely understand how those who oppose any type of LE at every turn will use whatever means they have at their disposal to disparage and/or disgrace them and turn public opinion against them for any myriad of reasons. We see it every day.

My original point is the radicals have used vids like this for decades to try to turn the tide of public opinion re: public meat consumption. It's a defined strategy just like showing someone getting beat senseless by a cop would be by those who oppose LE by any measure. Sure, some things are uncalled for. But it's all ugly, period. I know firsthand. However necessary unless people decide to give it up and live on plants, which ain't happening.

Dogs and cats are only pets because we’ve made them pets. Farm animals are not pets because we haven’t typically made them pets. In fact, there are plenty of pet goats, pigs, etc.

Whether they are pets or not has nothing to do with whether they are sentient beings.

How? See my response above. We humans have chosen to use them for different purposes (companionship vs. meat) but that doesn’t mean they are biologically different or that farm animals don’t have emotions and feel pain just like dogs and cats do.

Whats a 'pet'? I've had horses that were pets, actually he was more of an animal I looked up to. It was real turning point in my life when I lost him to colic.
There was also a nanny goat and an assortment of rabbits and even some chickens and turkeys that were pets. You get out of it what you put in.

I’ve been around ranching and farming all my life. Cruelty is neither condoned nor tolerated.

The caveat to that being some practices could be considered cruel. Branding, cutting bull calves, are two practices that come to mind. But they’re necessary, no different than what humans experience from birth to maturity.

Anyone who doesn’t beleive cruelty doesn’t exist in the wild is extraordinarily naieve.

Supposedly, plant based synthetic meat and even cheese is being formulated to mimic the texture and flavor of meat and cheese and gawd only knows what's next? Plus, the msm would have you believe it's be wildly accepted by the public.

    Bollocks!

So, cruelty to broccoli and many of it's cousins, will ultimately be the only food group pitilessness in the near future.

I think this is a peta inspired conspiracy....

And none of that garbage will ever touch my lips.

I eat a lot of avocados and after realizing I can’t save every avocado seed I eat from its destiny I toss them in the waste bin. I feel bad about it but that probably has as much to do with throwing food away knowing there’s a wild animal somewhere that would benefit from it. Which is one reason I take old food and drop it by a nearby creek.

When I see birds congregating around fast food restaurants I’m reminded of the fact that for an animal, finding a French Fry is like hitting the lottery.

If they can do that with the flesh from tuna and other fish I’d make that a priority.
