News articles are portraying Iran as acting out to force the USA to back off crushing sanctions.
Given the mental frame of mind of these fanatics, will they ever cave and modify their behavior? I don’t think so. They’ll kill every one of their own people before they bow to us.
I think the only way to get them back to rational nation status is for them to overthrow the theocracy. I have no idea how that could ever happen. Has that ever happened before? (Other than SLOWLY)

Guess they need another pallet of $$ or else!

The Saudis have an Army and Air Force. They should use them to defend their national interests. The US can supply intel and hardware, but the blood needs to be local. Enough American kids have bled to protect them. The US can handle a slow down of Saudi oil output relatively well I think.

Personally, given all the advanced armament and training we have sold to the Saudi's, I think the Saudi's should handle the response.
They have zero regard for the equipment or their own lives, and little interest in learning how to use them properly. US personnel have to hold their hands every time they use what we've "sold" them.

It would probably happen if we stopped giving them money and reasons to keep fighting. Large segments of their population are sick of it.

We just need to introduce our friends the Israelis to the Saudis. Let the Israelis set up shop in Saudi and "help" with the response to Iran (without officially being there of course).

Then Trump just needs to threaten sanctions against any other country in the world that offers aid, funding, commerce, etc. with Iran.

Now if only someone wouldn't have given or freed up billions of dollars of cash for Iran just because they said they wouldn't pursue nuclear arms. I guess someone forgot to look behind their back to see if they were crossing their fingers, because they're sure enriching plutonium now. That's why I think Israel would take the opportunity to be preemptive, especially if they have deniability.

Their pilots seem to be squared away but from what I have seen of their army ( granted this was only at security checkpoints and gate duty) I am pretty underwhelmed.
I suspect they would hire the best army money could buy when it came to actual ground fighting.

Some pilots, not all. The RSAF is led by this Prince Turki who was an RSAF F-15 pilot that also fought in Desert Storm. Him, and a few others take their job seriously.

Most of the remaining officers, not so much as they realize no matter how good they are, they aren’t of the ruling family and won’t get far in the long run.

Maintenance is via the In’Shallah method. I flew out King Khalid Military City during the OIF invasion and was offered the opportunity to serve as an airborne liaison on the Saudi AWACS and turned it down as their ability to actually launch the airplane was questionable at best.

Saudi Arabia has the best army that money can buy.
Which is to say, not that great.

They have the best equipment we’ll sell, but it is not clearly understood.

And they lack enough trained personnel to handle the equipment they do have.

Their history of ground combat is not good.

The Saudi military is good at only one thing:
    Air power

The Iranians have zero fear of Saudi ground forces and apparently not much fear of retaliatory air strikes.

Fortunately, a response would involve air power.

    That’s true

But as we see in Yemen, Saudi air power alone isn’t all that effective, because you eventually need boots on the ground.

At best, a retaliatory strike is a single punch to the gut with few long-term ramifications.

That region was, is and always will be in conflict.

Take out their oil platforms and transfer platforms in the gulf, then take out the cat crackers in their refineries. That will have long term ramifications and also send a message.

They sure do have the best $$ can buy. USDOD has shed a lot of blood for them over the years.

Time for them to step up or learn a different language. The US has oil production capability to keep the lights on for a while.
