    Labor mainly. They had to pull the dash and center console. The part itself is cheap.

    They also had to flush and replace the coolant because they had to remove the connections to the heater core and also flush the evac system and put new freon in. Damned interconnected systems.

    I kinda suspected; that's the sort of thing that's hard to assess when buying a vehicle.

    I've said for years (decades?) auto engineers, perhaps encouraged to by mfgs., design things so the shade tree dude can't do the repair. :( One of many reasons I don't buy the one with all the bells & whistles.

    Yep. I researched it and knew what the issue was before taking it in but when I saw I'd be pulling the dash and console, I threw my hands up and took it in.

    Still cheaper than buying a new car...I guess

    Freon huh? Haven't heard that in awhile.
