Porsche really knows how to put on a launch party! We got to try out the new 2020 992 4S, and the 991 Turbo S to compare. They had live music, a nice little presentation on the new 992, and a great food spread. They had lamb chops, y'all... All gratis.

    Here's my thoughts:
    • The PDK is still the best dual clutch transmission in the industry, but more importantly YOU CAN GET ONE WITH A MANUAL!
    • I like the 992's styling. They managed to make it look leaner without it being a smaller car. Flatness seems to be a theme.
    • I'm not really a fan of the digital dash, but that's just me.
    • Some have lamented the naturally aspirated engine going away, but I really enjoy the torque that the turbos provide. The new 992 4S feels like it pulls as hard as the 991 Trubo S.
    • Sadly the 992 feels more "electronic" and disconnected than the 991 does. Just as the 991 feels that way compared to the 997, and so on down the line. It's an unfortunate side effect that technology which makes cars better overall also numbs the visceral experience.
    • Porsche knows how to treat their customers well.

Sorry this was filmed on a potato...

Looks like they kept y'all really tightly bound and slow, unfortunately. I did a Cadillac V-series marketing deal at COTA one year, and they let us pound the dog snot out of those cars.

Yeah it wasn't quite all out. It also depended on the group you were in. Both on my run and my friend's, our group had to slow down because we caught up to the group in front of us. Hitting 148 on the back straight after having to basically stop at the corner before isn't bad, tho.

No it's not bad at all, if I remember right that's about the same speed I attained in a Gen2 CTS-V coming off the corner hot. Just stinks that you didn't get to push the car hard into the corners where it can really show you what it's capable of. Easy to understand they just don't trust your random folks behind the wheels of a car that can easily kill them if they don't know what they're doing.

They spared no expense! And by that I actually mean they spared the entire expense. No spread at all :(
