So, is this round dead or not? It seems to have a small cult following, but parts and uppers are getting scarce for it. The days of cheap 6.8 uppers is apparently over too. Regardless of whether I build or buy one, the upper alone would be over $600. I know the 6.5 Grendel outshines it for long range shooting, but I felt that it was a good alternative to 5.56 for hunting and defense.

Certainly not dead. If you going to go 6.8, why not build and install an ARP barrel? Great barrel for the money. Every ARP barrel I've used is shoot .5 MOA. I've got 6.8 in ARP, PSA and LWRC. ARP is the most accurate of the three.

I have no problems with my LWRC rifles in 6.8, but I agree that the ARP barrels are FANTASTIC. I built DI rifles on LWRC Six8 sets--one in 6.8SPC and the other in .224Valkyrie. Simply superlative barrels.

My LWRC Six8 is a piston. But I also have a ARP barrel on Six8 DI upper. The Six8 piston is the least accurate of all of my 6.8. But I've never taken the time to work a load of for it. The XM68 ammo shoots best at .75 MOA. Every ARP barrel I've own, except for maybe my long freebore .224 Valk, shoots around .5 MOA. And I have or have owned ARP barrels in 5.56, 6.8, 270AR, 6.5 Grendel, TAC6, .308, and 6.5 CM. We'll see how the long freebore .224 Valk does. Haven't tested it at the range so far. But will the next time I make it to the range.

Another ARP 6.8 SPC II barrel owner here. It's dead nuts and as for ammo, my plinking costs are about $.64; however, I don't need to run but a couple 10 round mags every 4 or 5 range trips. Use for mid-range hunting and it's a hard hitter. Years ago when everyone thought the 6.8 was going to be super by the military and Hornady 110G V-Max was plentiful I took advantage and so for hunting am set for many-a-season.

Plus, I can pop the upper off of one off my AR lowers and snap a 5.56/.223 upper no sweat.

Functionally, my rifles (bolt and semi) are all 5.56; but for the 6.8 upper, and my AK pattern rifles. I don't shoot farther or hunt larger than what these rounds can do and this setup works for me, YMMV.

I won't even give them the page view. Midsouth Shooters Supply, Midway USA, Grafs, Lucky Gunner, and Ammo Seek all sell ammo, and they don't price gouge like the scumbags who run CTD.

To put it as nicely as possible, CTD can eat shit and die.
