So you have almost $1200 in mags? Damn!
On more than one occasion, I've bought a pistol then immediately spent more money on mags than the cost of the pistol. One of the things that makes autopistols fun is having enough ammo loaded and ready to go that an entire range session doesn't require stopping to reload magazines.

I could load up ~400 rounds of 9mm in my Glock mags. That makes for an efficient range session.

That's not always the perfect approach, though. I can load up more ammo for my H&K PSP than I could possibly fire at one time. The pistol gets so hot after 40 or so rounds that you have to leave it alone to cool down. Despite having a bunch of mags for it, I usually just take two to the range. That way, the time I spend filling mags forces me to leave the pistol alone and let it cool down.

I drive into Commiefornia from my neighboring AZ occasionally. Never my choice or preference. This question comes up each time.

I have a SA XD45 pistol in 460 Rowland that I would take but for the compensator, which is illegal in CA due to the evil threaded barrel lol.

Right now it would be an EAA Witness in 10mm (I can and do conceal) or my current project, a Glock 22 converted to 357 sig.

Probably my gen 3 G27. I have a p365 and it is appreciably smaller that the Glock...but there is no amount of pixie dust that can be sprinkled upon a micro compact that will allow them to stay their size and carry 9 or 10 of 40 s&w. But then again; I may just go to a s&w 327 pug nose and ignore all this silly “magazine” talk with 8 357 magnums on board.

I was pondering this problem and I was wondering if a 10 round mag counting one in the chamber making it loaded with 11 rounds which is one over the 10 round limit or they mean to say or 9 rounds in the mag and one in the chamber which equals 10 rounds the number they say it should or 10 rounds in the magazine and no rounds in the chamber meaning if you rack the slide in a crisis and don't fire you have to immediately un load the gun and put that one round back in the mag to make 10 again. Damn this is hard I think maybe you shouldn't travel in a 10 round mag state to begin with and vote for Trump so we won't have to worry about such matters. BTW I will continue to carry my Sig P365 or if it is summer my LCP II or Sig P238 and when I go to the range carry my 17 round Sig P320 and 15 round P320c and hope no one counts the bangs.

Also consider when some mags (theres a few iirc) work for more than 1 round. The larger round will fill it up faster then the smaller round could be over 10

'Splain, please............ Aren't all rounds for a specific caliber the same diameter? Or are you talking about mixing and matching different calibers in mags that weren't necessarily designed for it?

It'd be like how a standard ar mag can hold 10 .50 beowulf rounds, or 30 rounds of 5.56
