I was on the fence about getting one. I had my rifle zero’d pretty well and felt really comfortable about using my iron sights. But I saw a Vortex Crossfire for under $100 so I went ahead and picked it up. So easy to use and dead nuts on target! Only issue I have is, I’ve seen so many different opinions on what yardage to zero at. I zero’d in at 25, which puts me higher than I want at 50, but it’s a home defense rifle so it really shouldn’t be a problem. This is the target I used after I got it sighted in. Put at lest 3 magazines through it waiting for a cease fire so I could go out and move it.

Nice. They really do improve target acquisition and make accurate shots on multiple targets much easier.

Give it a try. Remember, a home invasion will rarely be just one bad guy.

I went EOtech a decade or more ago because aging eyes had my groups roughly double at 50 yards or so. It was awesome, shot better than I have in years with only the dot that really disappears with both eyes open shooting and less fatigue when not focusing on 3 points in the plane.

If folks arent red dot people try a nice small peep with a brightly contrasting front pin. Your eye will subconsciously and automatically center the post in the peep.

Did this with a Glock 19 and RMR at 25 yards. Paper is the size of an index card. Love my dot

    Agree.

I'm sitting here fondling the pristine Trijicon MRO that I picked up cheap at SAXET yesterday.

What, oh what, to mount it on???

Put a new battery from HEB into it this morning.
The little setting-3 red dot will be there, untouched, unwavering, quite visible, until December 2024???

    Cool!!!!

I love all my dots but they sure did get me complacent about the irons, so I gotta go back to irons for a while. I zero at 50. Not because I'm some pro or expert, but because the 50/200 zero, or 6 inch effective zero makes the most sense to me, as a home defense rifle that can also be used outside of the home. If I'm really worried about all of that zeroing technical stuff, I'm just going to grab the pistol anyway, or the shotgun.

25 yards doesn't make sense to me as a home defense rifle. If I am going to dedicate my rifle to home defense, then I'm going to zero to 10-15, but that makes it useless at any longer range. That brings me to a conclusion that it is pointless to have an AR dedicated to home defense ONLY, when there are shotguns and pistols.

It all just becomes too much nonsense and makes one over think things. Kinda throws everything out of order. So I just stick with 50 yards.

This was not very eloquent hahaha.
