My wife got me hooked on the Dollar Shave Club. Very reasonable and a good shave. Blades are good for about 3 or 4 shaves. And, you get a box of 4 disposable shave heads.

I shave once a week and can generally get about 2 months out of a blade with my safety razor. I use a Merkur and have had it for about 5 years. Other than replacing blades once every quarter of a year, I haven't looked back at those crap disposables. Money savings is a good side affect but the shave quality is so much better. I also use a pre-lather in the shower before the shaving soap and I think that's what gets me my time out of each blade.

actually, a lot of houses had a razer disposal slot built in. Be careful when demoing old places.

You might wanna get your testosterone levels checked. ;) I mean I shave about once a week and look rather scruffy by Friday. But I only get a single use out of the blades. It's like I'm shaving off steel bristles.

Try something with feather blades. They last pretty damn well

No shaving here except cheeks and neck.......razors last forever......just use electric to trim beard and stache length.

    Magic shave.

    Problem solved

A shaving waiver from a good doc helps too.

I havnt actually shaved in probably 20 plus years. Just use clippers to trim to about 2 days growth every time the wife says I'm starting to look single again.

    If mama ain't happy.

Been doing a little comparison between a Viking Chieftain and a Merkur 34c. Didnt realize blades made such a difference but I've decided the Viking is more aggressive. ()
Same blade in each (Astra Super Platinum)

I can make a cross grain pass with the Merkur and its smooth as can be. Same pass with the Viking I can feel and hear it cutting.

Viking the clear winner but I'd like to try a longer handle.

So it seems the Vulcan is Viking's longer handle offering. Has anyone tried a Vulcan? Is it as aggressive as a Chieftain?

There are many types of razors, and mainly it depends on the whiskers and facial sensitivity, and the blades mainly determine that. I use the Merkur 39c, more because of how it shapes the blade in the razor. Out of the different types of blades I've used, I have found that the Feather blades have worked the best for me, but one should find out what works best for themselves. I will say that I'm disappointed in myself for having bought into the cartridge razors for most my life, since I now believe safety razors have a better shave, and cheaper in the long run.

I started shaving with DE safety razor, an old Parker I inherited from my grandfather.

Marriage, kids, life happened and sadly it seemed there was no time for a mug & brush. Let the pace push me into the "quick, convenient, disposable" shave.

One day while hurriedly scraping my face with a plastic piece of crap I recalled the zen of whipping a warm foam and methodically removing the whiskers.

Returning to that ritual makes a big difference in the start of my day not to mention the far superior result.

I like Feather blades but always up to try something different in the endless quest for the perfect shave.

At first when I switched from disposable razors I went with a straight razor (Dovo). Occasionally I will use the Dovo, but that takes a much more involved ritual, and upon waking and getting ready for work, I'm not at my best for that.

A safety razor gives me a near straight razor shave, without the added time and concentration needed. I also started using a Proraso preshave, which also makes it easier in the morning.

Been safety razor shaving for 7 years now. Started with a Gillette NEW from 1931 that my dad gave me. Either it was old when he bought it or he got it from his dad. I used it with Astra blades.

Switched to a Muehle R41 for Sundays and a Merkur Slant bar 37C. Still use Astra and Derby blades and I get a reasonable shave.

Badger brush and Proraso followed by a slap of Clubman does the trick reliably.

I'm too chicken to go with Japanese Feather blades but maybe one day.

Those feather blades are something else. They make for a really nice shave

I much prefer the single edge, GEM style razors to the double edge. The blade is thicker, less wobble or chatter.
I mod a forum about the Single edge razors, I can PM you some more if if you would like it.

Send it. By the way, as far as I can tell, Harry's is not owned by one of the big razor companies.

By the way, as far as I can tell, Harry's is not owned by one of the big razor companies.

In May 2019, Edgewell Personal Care, the owner of the Schick brand of shaving products, announced it would purchase Harry's for $1.4 billion. The merger was intended to finalise by the end of the first quarter of 2020. In February 2020, the Federal Trade Commission sued Edgewell to block the merger, stating that bringing Schick and Harry's together could hurt competition.
