Got a hankering for a .22 double action revolver. Yeah I know, my gun ADD sucks.

They're cheap to feed and I don't realistically have time to reload .44 right now.

So... Which one? I'm between a new S&W 617 4" and the GP 100 5.5" right now. The GP is in the running mainly because it's cheaper.

I've got a Smith & Wesson Model 17-3, nice piece.

I know nothing about the particular Ruger you are thinking about but also like Ruger firearms. I have a Ruger Mark II, a Ruger Redhawk 44 REM MAG, a Ruger Single Six Convertible, a Ruger New Model Single Six Convertible (and another of these on the way, just got mailed today), a Ruger Mini 14 Ranch Rifle, a Ruger 10/22. All of my Rugers are nice quality guns as is the S&W Model 17 that I own. Tough decision it would be for me but I do like my Rugers and the Ruger GP100 one would probably win out.

Don’t overlook one of the earlier Model 17 or K-22 Masterpiece guns, or the Model 18 or Combat Masterpiece (4” barrel). Those were made in the glory days of S&W.

I’ve got an old 5-screw Combat Masterpiece made in 1954, and it is one of my favorite guns to shoot and to look at.

A lot of them are overpriced these days, but you can find one at a fair price sometimes if you’re patient or lucky.

I left those out mainly because the 17s/18s are $$$ and I'd rather have the 10 round capacity of the newer models. And I'm not a fan of the black bluing on the new Model 18 Classics.

    you’re patient or lucky.

    I'm neither. :)

The little Ruger 3" LCRX .22lr I've got is relatively inexpensive and reliable. Only about 500+- rounds so far but, it likes the cheaper Aguila and Remington ammo.

If you can find one, consider a Dan Wesson.
Since you prefer something K-frame-sized, this is the best advice I've seen so far.

    That said, I have a S&W M18 and I love it. That, a 17, a K-22...it's hard to go wrong with any K-frame S&W .22.

    I’ve one of the J-frame Model 63’s.
    It is an 8 shot.
You’re welcome to try it out.

You've let me try it a couple of times and I do like the way it shoots. I am leaning more toward the larger frame though since it'll be purely for range plinking.
