I bought this jewel for the Bride some 20 years ago, but she prefers GLOCKS.

It sat in safe with other revolvers for ~ 20 years.

Then, we moved to a much less dangerous area. I began carrying it in a forward-cant GALCO high rise OWB holster with some Duluth suspenders, and just LOVE the rig. Truly forget that it is there, in Summer & Winter dress.

    Put 3 x 5-round speed loaders, w/ Winchester "Silver-Tip +P's", in opposite front pocket and I'm off.

Anyone else on here have this model & rig?

The "Scandium" model uses extremely expensive metal alloys to achieve its ultra light weight, considerably less than an Aluminum model, and is terribly expensive; costs over 2X a regular J-frame.

Yes, it is difficult to shoot accurately.

But, as I tell those new to C.C., the "BEST" carry gun is the one which is most likely to BE THERE when needed.

After escaping a career criminal kidnapper in late 1980, I began (illegally) C.C.ing on advice from multiple Texas LEO friends. I am a Physician and was frequently called-in late at night into central Houston for emergencies.

When C.C. became legal decades ago, I tried to switch from my trusty PPKS to a GLOCK 21; that just didn't work. Gradually went down to a KelTec P380, but didn't want to trust my life to that.

My (Wife's) Scandium J-frame WILL BE THERE ! The little Smih will be there, and it will "Go BANG" every, every time.

While larger heavier pieces are home in safe or in truck.

I don't think any hospitals allow employee carry unless armed security. In Austin, none of them allow LTC holders to carry.

Gee, in my 50+ years in American Medicine, I've never been a hospital "employee". Medical Staff Physician, Consultant, University Faculty, Advisor, etc. but never an "employee".

I carry a 340pd loaded with .357mag everyday to work in my scrubs pants front pocket. I carry in a sticky holster or nemesis. It's the only thing that doesnt weight my pants down besides my naa pug .22mag. Its definately one of my best purchases. Yeah if jumps and stings more than my 686+ and even my 327pc but I still love it.

It's not about being employed. They have posted 30.06 and 30.07 signs.

I don't have a scandium aluminum revolver, but the S&W 1911 I carry has a scandium aluminum frame.
I've always been interest in these since I usually carry a colt defender in .45acp or a 327pd. I dont want to derail the thread but if you could pm me how you like it, I would appreciate it.

You missed the thinly veiled sarcasm and point about how stupid the whole sign posting bs is.

2 of my Drs are located at hospital complexes that are physically part of the hospital, in the same building as the hospital not in different buildings around the hospital. Two different hospitals ran by two different parent companies in two different cities. If you go in one door there are a shit load of signs and notices and if you read long enough you get to a carry related notice.

If you go into another door just 30 feet away, if that, there is no sign prohibiting any type of carry. Even though they both go to the same lobby. Yet another door only mentions open carry.

I wasn't familiar with that model Smith, but looked it up & it looks great. If you can take the recoil. I'm 76 with serious erosive osteoarthritis, especially of thumbs / bilateral 1st c-mcj's; don't think I could manage it now.

Good for you if you can.

When I got the Scandium, it was to be a B-D present for bride & came with an extra set of fancy wood custom grips, but she didn't like them. I do have an "airweight" with custom overmolded Pachmyers, but left the stock panels on the it since I carry it now.

A few years ago on the New Orleans "Moon Walk" (riverwalk), we had a tourist kill an armed robber with a .38spl J-frame fired from inside his jacket pocket. One round mid chest; D.O.A.

Re "carrying at work"; few talk about this, but many do it.

Back in the 1970's we had a few Docs killed by robbers at Texas Medical Center. HPD told me to carry, way before C.C. was legal.

In recent years, to go in at night, it was GLOCK 26 or 19. or a KImber 1911 .45ACP.

Sadly, I lost them all in the boat accident.

Good to hear from you, and from others in similar situations.

I love mine and carry it all the time. It’s so light that it is my pajama gun. Not sure bout you but my guns are in two categories; group A, guns that I would let go of if the right deal came along, and group B, guns that I’ll have til I die. My scandium J frame is a group B gun.

I'd almost let a sledgehammer hit my open hand before shooting full power 357 out of those.

Almost. I'd rather be alive with a stinging hand than probably dead.
