This is how you know you have a good ranch dog.

Last night our little guy, Munchkin a Goffin's Cockatoo, wanted a treat. I told him he couldn't have a treat till he ate dinner. My wife went into the kitchen to make his dinner, a scrambled egg, he followed her. As she was making dinner he was rummaging around in a corner of the breakfast nook. He came around the counter and up to my wife and looked up at her. He was carrying a treat he had stashed in one of his boxes of toys.

He gave the treat to my wife and then ate his dinner. Then he got his treat.

It's almost scary how smart these little guys are.

    LOL

That is a shadow, although she is a pretty well accessorized gal. She has working tack, and show arena tack. She is regularly bathed and pampered.

She lives at the school ag barn, while I continue to save for a small ranch for my family.

    Your dog?
Yes. He doesn't really have a light saber.

Actually, he belonged to my daughter. Years ago, he was clobbered by a Fed Ex truck. I thought he was a goner. Buit we got him stabilized and the vets said they needed to take a back leg and that he would be a "strong 3-legged dog". After he began to heal, we found that he had nerve damage to a front leg. Dang.
We found a really good rehab vet that alternated acupuncture and water treadmill therapy and taught him to walk again (he could only scoot for a great while). As he healed, he and I kind of bonded and my daughter said "he is yours now". He is a very smart young man and worked SO hard when being rehabbed. I am very proud of him. His name is Cooper and he is "mostly chocolate Lab", but I suspect he may even have a touch of Pitt. Not so young any more. Probably 12 or more...

They did NOT. And it was a fair chunk of change, too. But, to be honest, he had pushed our screen door and shot out to meet his girl, who was walking home from school. He did not stop and look both ways. So really not the Fed Ex driver's fault.

Thinking about this some more, he made a Christmas short that I should share with you if I can find it.

Merry Christmas from Cooper the amazing two and a half legged dog

Daughter got a sheep-doodle. The big dog is 75 lbs The puppy is 10 weeks old. She’s gonna be a big one.

Very sweet, and crazy smart. She can already sit, stay, shake.

    These two are big buddies.

Looks like a bear in your back yard....

    ZX9RCAM,

YEP. And the pup may well grow up to be a "tough customer", too.

ADDENDA: While I've mostly (as an adult) had Chow-Chows, Dobermans & Rottweilers, our TOUGHEST guard-dog was a coal-black, spayed bitch that was Half Belgian Shepherd & Half "Charming Texan".
(To keep her from being "put down", I adopted her as an 9-WK old pup.)
She "bonded to" my late wife & WOE UNTO anyone who even "raised their voice to", much less "laid a hand upon" VK.
(Mei-Mei grew up to weigh 95 pounds of HARD MUSCLE, "hostility to strangers" & PURE GUTS.)

    yours, satx
