I wonder how much functionality, and dependability will suffer.

I'm guessing all this is done with weaker springs?

I got a chance to look at one. The slide isn’t that much easier to operate then the normal shied. The mags a tab on the sides that let you slide the follower down to drop the round in easier. That’s about it. The .380 ez was easier to manipulate then there 9mm version from what I got to look at. Is it possible the one I had was just a bit tighter than the rest? Don’t know I didn’t handle all of them. But I get the concept.

One there thought. The slide was release was real hard to operate normally. Not a good thing

The S&W M&P EZ 9mm is touted as being much easier to work the slide than say a G19.

    True or only marginally true?

    Anyone know?

    Thanks!

Compared to other striker guns it was easier, much easier than a FN, Springfield, regular M&P. I've never owned a Glock and can't comment on that specific comparison. About the same as something like an RM380

Keep in mind its not a striker fired gun. Closer to a 1911. It has a single action internal hammer. That's one of the reasons for the grip safety, and the nice trigger.

I've helped a three old ladies who were newly alone and wanted a gun. All three couldnt operate a semi auto nor could they pull the trigger on a DA revolver. I gave each a grip strength machine to use every day for 2 weeks. One where you could use each finger and the whole hand. As well as a stress ball. 2 weeks later I gave them an empty gun and a beginning lesson in the 5 rules how to operate the weapon, of their choice, and told them to continue the hand exercises and manipulate the weapon along with dry fire practice with a quarter on top till the pulled the trigger without it falling.

After just 1 month all three were able to SAFELY manipulate a revolver and semi automatic. Safely is important with the auto for obvious coordination reasons of sympathetic reflex. Really for the revolver too because while cocking it may be an easy way to cheat on the DA stroke, it's easy get the finger in the trigger guard due to sympathetic reflex as well. My mom was one of those folks. Her issue was post polio syndrome which made it such that no ammount of strength can overcome nerve issues and she routinely would fire the gun as soon as the hammer was cocked. She followed all the other rules so she was only a danger to the ground. Thankfully she realised this herself and decided she could no longer be safe and gave up her guns. I say thankfully because I was going to have to figure out how to tell her this had to be the case and what to do about her keeping them. You can see the dilemma I was facing reconciling all the 2 a issues freedom and safety of my mom.

    Anyways,

I suggested all three get a model 66 or similar 357 and shoot 38 sock for obvious reasons. 2 did that and one got a 1st gen sw single stack 9mm. All steel. All three were extremely competent and pleased with the results. I told them to continue the grip strength exercises 3 times a week and if comfortable, to dry fire a couple times a week following the rules of no ammo etc and never get distracted.

They would most definitely suprise anyone who took them for easy prey.

2 commented how their arthritis improved greatly over that first month.

The point is there is more than one way the skin a man eating beast.

You folks all know this but Small guns in decently powered calibers have to have heavier springs to delay operation till the pressures drop enough not to RIP apart cases damage the gun or cause FTF malfunctions. The shield is pretty difficult to manipulate for some but very few of those folks can easily overcome this with a minimal amount of work and commitment to overcome.

    Whistler,

    Thank you.

    cancallen,

In my case, the pain is in my shoulders. The joints are shot.

I was at the range day before yesterday and found I can no longer manually put the pistol into slide lock as the effort hurts my shoulder so much I almost puked........actually I was shooting 2 pistols and found I couldn't slide lock either one.
