I got an e-mail from a gun store that will remain un-named (...but is located at Spring Cypress and 249).

They are apparently trying to gin up a buying panic, by saying that the crisis in Russia/Ukraine could...COULD...cause shortages in Russian firearms and Wolf 7.62x39 ammo. They also list that they have plenty of Wolf 7.62x39 ammo at the price of $12.99 a box of 20!

Are they serious? Academy...right down the road has Wolf and Monarch (Barnaul) Russian made 7.62x39 at $5.99 for the same damn box of ammo! Two Wal Marts on Hwy 249 also have Wolf 7.62x39 in their cases for $5.99 a box. Both of these places also had tons of it. There is NO panic buying of Russian ammo or shortage right now.

Do these morons think we are unable to shop other places or do not have access to the web?

This is the type of nonsense that keeps people like me OUT of stores like this.

I know that the good people at Shiloh would NEVER engage in this type of price hiking or hype...so that is why I shop with you guys and skip this place as well a many of the other Johnny-come-lately gun shops in the Houston burbs.

Thought you all might get a laugh off of that...

That's different than gouging, that's attempted market manipulation. But if suckers fall for it, whatever.

Oh it is market manipulation AND yeah...it is gouging.

Normally...I am not a huge whiner about gouging. Hell...you as a business have every right to ask whatever for your wares.

HOWEVER...12 bucks a box for something a place 2 miles down the road sells for 6...along with a misleading e-mail promotion IS suspect.

I tell you this...I have been shooting and collection guns in this town for a few decades now and the stunts I have seen pulled by some sellers in this business have me never darkening their doors ever again. From Cheaper Than Dirt to these guys.

Many other Houston area stores also developed a "take it or leave it" attitude during the 2008 and Sandy Hook buying sprees. It is as if NOW they all were making big bank off of the panic and they did not NEED to provide any customer service or sane prices anymore. Odd...because in years past...the gun stores were BEGGING all of us to come in and spend money with them.

Well...some of us have long memories and with the advent of the internet, along with fairly local bulk ammo sellers like Freedom Munitions and Ammo To Go...I am surprised that some brick and mortar store would engage in this type of nonsense.

Thank God for honest and up front sellers like Shiloh and Tomball Pawn because most other Houston gun sellers will NEVER see me come through their doors again.

Another thing to consider on the "possible" dry up of 7.62x39 (which is NOT happening right now) is that much of the 7.62x39 that does come into the USA comes from Serbia and the Czechs. That 7.62x39 would NOT be affected by the Ukraine crisis at all.

Hey..I am all for supporting the honest, no BS stores and staying far away from Gander, Bass Pro and the other smaller shops that pull stunts like this. Vote with your wallet...I always say.

    Is it SGA?
Can't be. That's nowhere near Spring Cypress and 249. The map link posted shows a shop named Spectre but I have no idea if that's who the OP is discussing.

I've been in there a couple of times but I don't have enough experience with Spectre to add anything further.

I've been to Shiloh once or twice. Didn't have the best experience, I'll just leave it at that. Maybe one day I'll find a range on that side of town I actually like, but it hasn't happened yet.
