    To All,

All that I've done "car-wise" lately is BUY an OXFORD WHITE with Dove Gray leather interior 1996 Lincoln Continental with 71, 000 actual miles from an estate sale, for about what the wheels/near new tires are worth used.
(It's been parked for 18 months plus, since the PO died & needs all the fluids changed & a door mechanism adjusted to drive it daily.)

    yours, satx

I feel the sudden need to start locking my tailgate. I didn't realize tailgate theft was a thing.

    Shotgun Jeremy,

I've heard of exactly ONE owner anywhere in the Bexar County area who has lost a tailgate to THEFT (It was reported stolen off an "old model" & restored Chevy Apache.) but any number that have been badly damaged in rear-end collisions & need a serious repair.
(Obviously, I may be underestimating the problem but at least around SA, I think not.)

    yours, satx

It's been a thing for a long time. Definitely keep it locked and add a hose clamp if nothing else.

It's not only the expense to replace it but also the hassle.

My current and previous LT Z71's had the locking tailgate. Even my work issued 17 WT 2500 had a locking tailgate. and both Avalanches too. I think it started becoming standard with the back up camera.

It’s irritating that my trim level doesn’t have a power lock back there.

Which one did you install, and how tough was it to do?

It was Pop n lock brand. For me it was an easy install. Instructions were pretty straight forward, you just have to know a bit about your vehicle or be able to google the info.

But it all depends on your skill level or how comfortable you are working with your hands. I've swapped turbos, done deletes, changed injectors, installed power steps, installed lifts on trucks, etc. Will be fixing my oil leak at the vacuum pump this Saturday. The tailgate lock was definitely on the easier end of the scale.

Mine is a 2015, maybe that has something to do with it.

It does have a camera, not sure if that was standard or optional though.

He should try charging the battery first. ECU won't fire the injectors if voltage drops too low.

Battery is fully charged, but it does seem more sluggish than normal in cranking. Might be a good idea to check the voltage drop while cranking; could be going below the threshold voltage of the ECU like you suggest. Would need to still figure out what's causing the extra drain.
