I am interested in getting one of these. I haven't found one locally to handle or shoot.
Anyone have one? I read the little pistol is "snappy". I would expect that due to it's weight and barrel length. If you have shot one, what does it compare to? Like 9 mm or a 44 mag?

In line with other smaller polymer 9's.

Wouldn't be my first choice for a range pistol, but that not really what its made for

All of the micro nines will be very snappy, which can be problematic for new shooters.

Someone experienced like you Oldvet won’t have any issues especially since you know how to shoot a 1911 correctly as well as your range time.

Unless you are having physical problems with you hands you should be ok with buying one before trying.

FWIW, I carry and shoot the original pocket rocket, Rohrbaugh R9. I also have the Sig 290 RS, and a Springfield 911 9mm.

If I could just quit buying other guns I plan on getting a Hellcat and a 365.

    Helotes!
I have a XD(S)-45 which is comparable in size, and while it is a bit "snappy" compared to my full-sized Springfield XDs I am impressed how well it handles for its caliber!

That said, it will never been a range gun; but I wouldn't hesitate to shoot it if/when necessary!

I carry an OD Glock 19 in my car. It fits in my console, but it and the holster fill the console area.
The Hellcat has peaked my interest since it seems to be soooo popular.
I am like you Reinz, I don't need a new pistol; but I am having a hard time convincing myself of that fact.
I bought a Glock 43 when they first came out because they were so anticipated. Neither my wife or I really like it, so for the past few years it has lived in one of the drawers in my gun cabinet. It has had maybe 50 rounds down the pipe. It is a nice gun, just not what I was hoping for.
I don't want to repeat that again with something I haven't even held.

Reinz, how do you like the Sig P290RS? Is yours the 9mm or 380 version? I understand that some people don’t like the DAO trigger. But for a self defense gun, that wouldn’t bother me if it’s a good DAO trigger.

I have the 365 and it shoots like a much bigger gun; not snappy at all to me. I just picked up a Hellcat and will shoot it this weekend. I think it feels a tiny bit better in my hand, we shall see. I like the XdM guns and shoot them well, so I have high hopes.
These things are all personal and perception, and like you I am a 1911 shooter and was not able to really connect with the 320. Fine gun, but I might as well have been throwing rocks. The 365 works for me, I am hoping the Hellcat will be even better.

It’s a good little 9mm. It’s lightweight and has stock night sights. It reminds me of single stack 365. Since I’m used to shooting a snappy Rohrbaugh I found the 290 not hard to control. It was cheap too! I think I only paid $250 or $275 for it new at a gun show.

Being used to the DAO of the Rohrbaugh makes the trigger of the 290 a natural for me. I think being DAO helps with control of the gun since you grip harder in DAO mode over SA, if that makes sense.

I picked up a Hellcat a few weeks ago. Easy to shoot for me. Did not appear snappy, just shot like a 9mm. It does not fill much different than my LCP in recoil but does have less felt recoil when compared to my air-weight snub nose. Keep in mind most of my pistol shooting is 44 mag & 357 mag so I am not recoil sensitive.... yet.

A buddy and I went to shoot our new guns (his a P365 and my Hellcat) a few months ago. I prefer the Hellcat because the grip feels just slightly larger and I prefer the sights on the Hellcat.
After we have put approximately 500 rounds through each model he is now also in the market for a "Hellcat". The recoil feels much like a S & W Shield (9mm) but there is a little (not much) more width in the grip, and I like it. I wasn't really trying for accuracy but I can keep the groups at 20-25 yards inside the spread of my hand/finger-spread.(that's plenty accurate for it's intended purpose for me).

I used to be a large bore shooter. A 1911 in .45 ACP is (was) my all time favorite. I have .44 mags and other high strength handguns as well.
My age (72) and my type 2 diabetes hamper my shooting these days.
I have a Glock 19 that I currently carry, so I think I will pass on this small Hellcat.
Besides I know the 19 will perform if I ever need it to. I don't have that faith in some of the other models of small plastic firearms on the market.

I will say that the 9mm Shield has tame recoil compared to other small 9mms. I had a Kahr PM9 for a few years. I sold it when the Shield first came out, and I got my first Shield (I got the Shield the 1st week they hit the street).

From memory, the Shield is close to 1/2 the recoil of that PM9.

I later got a 2nd Shield, but sold them both down the line. I picked up another 9mm Shield last month

Well I broke down and bought a standard Hellcat today.
The Academy Store on highway 380 at Highway 243 had four this morning. Two OSP models and two standard models. The standard models are $499.95 and the OSP models are $549.95.
They talked me into opening an Academy Credit account as I was about to pay. The card offered a $15 discount on my first purchase and a 5% discount on my next purchase. I bought two boxes of 9mm Blazer Brass ($10.95 a box) for my first purchase and then the Hellcat for my second purchase. The total for everything was $514.95 out the door.
If I don't like the pistol I can probably get my money back if I decide to sell it while they are the "HOT" item.
