    Out here by the lake!
An electric smoker is a pretty simple thing to make. Single burner electric plate with a pan for the wood. Shelved Coke merchandise that no longer cools are a great choice, because of the various sizes they come in & adjustable racks. The windows don't hurt either. Seen them built ot of galvenized trash cans & terra cotta planters.

I guess some guys just like the fancier ones for bragging rights.

More work, but IMO, a better product. I ditched my drum for one with a fire box about 25 years ago. Much easier to use, but not as easy as a electronic smoker. Sticking with my New Branfels smoker. Building the right fire is part of why I like it better.

I use an oak base, then add a piece of pecan every 30 minutes.

    Love the flavor it gives.

I realize not everyone lives where they can do this, but for me no, no & no electric gadgets of any kind.

Tradition should be respected, I can appreciate keeping things old school. I can also appreciate modern technology and convenience, especially considering my work schedule and the desire to spend what valuable free time I have tending to my children instead of a bbq pit.
