Bittersweet evening. Our daughter informed us she broke up with her fiance last night. In her words, it's painful in the short term, but the right decision for the long term.

This is truly her first 'adulting' decision she's made without our input and knows we're here to listen and fully support her in this decision, difficult as it may be. Many thanks to y'all that have put up with my venting...this outlet kept me sane enough to not try to destroy the relationship and allow me to focus on the right things; being there as a proud and supportive parent without condition.

Though I don't know the reason(s), and they don't really matter, I think that last part, showering unconditional love, was something she felt was missing.

I'm sorry for her having to endure the temporary heartbreak. Good onya for showering her with love.

    Enjoy tonight's whiskey.

So when is the party that we won't tell your daughter about?

Something I've always told my kids is that kids need 3 things from parents.
    Teach me
Protect me. Even from myself or from you.
Love me. Unconditionally. No matter how stupid I get or how big an ass I sometimes am. And they will be both at times.
The second 2 are a requirement for a good relationship as well.
Unconditional love is a requirement for both parents and spouses.
Both of those relationships suffer without it.
It may hurt now, but she sounds like a smart girl that is putting things together.
    Hang in there Dad.
