I’ve been thinking about getting one of the 80% polymer kits I’ve seen online, just because it might be fun to “build” one. It definitely is not a money saving thing, the kit I was looking at was almost as much as a new Glock 19. There are several companies selling so I was wondering if anyone has a recommendation for a good kit to buy?

if you are going to get an 80% and cut your own frame, take the instructions & throw it in the trash.

then, get on youTube and look up “marinegunbuilder”

this guy does nothing except build polymer80 glock clones and he put out a ton of videos with all of his knowledge & wisdom on the subject.

so many tips & tricks. just solid advice, walks everything through each step. explains each step & why you do it 1 way as opposed to another. dude is legit.

lots of folks have problems getting the pins into the frame for 1. MGB will tell you that using a drill is the wrong move because too much torque and difficulty drilling at 90-degrees. he uses a Dremel to make the pin holes and it lines up every time. dremel = high speed, low torque, consistently closer to 90-degrees. lots of tidbits to turn out A+ projects. he even scrolls a motto something like “1st time quality” so he don’t play. made me want to throw mine in the trash and start over completely. and mine isn’t even bad; all the sh*t lines up & works just makes it seem like you did a hack job which is true comparing to how he does it

Appreciate it. Should I buy the complete kit from them? They have one with frame, slide, barrel, trigger, and a magazine. I had planned on just getting the frame and jig kit and getting the trigger and the rest of the parts I wanted somewhere else. The way I understand it is, most Glock 19 gen 3 parts will fit the build, so if I want a specific slide or barrel, I could get what I wanted.

I have built 3 of them and all 3 came from 80P Builder. https://80pbuilder.com/

All 3 run perfectly. The first one that I built, I didn't remove enough material from the recoil spring channel. The slide lacked about 1/8" returning to battery. After I opened up the channel a little bit more, I was off and running. I have built one G19 size and two G17 size. Very easy to do.

I had the same issue with the recoil spring channel on my 80% build as well, easily remedied and now she runs like a champ! There are a few threads on these builds on the forum if you do a quick search, just an fyi.

you answered your own question. either 1) get a generic, loaded kit that you may assume will all come together and work properly when finished or 2) buy just the polymer frame & jig then a OEM glock lower parts kit. knock that out & find the slide you want $150-$500 anywhere from basic to hours of CNC machining with a cutout for RMR red dot sight - an upper parts kit & barrel. there again the barrel $100-$300 match grade, fluted, threaded, stainless, bronze, etc.

if you get a generic kit you will prob end up being less than satisfied after you have spent a couple hours surfing the web. lots & lots of cool things on the market.

yes, anything marketed for a particular series of gen3 glock will be compatible with the polymer 80 frame. decide if you want a compact or full size and buy the corresponding poly80. i did the g19 as the aftermarket support and classified ads is literally endless for both that & g17 and then my gf may be able to control it better than a larger frame.

watch the MgB channel like i said. you find out things along the way such as replacing the ejector from the gen3 parts kit with an updated piece since the gen3 ejector throws the empty cases right in your face. or so i’ve read. soon as i saw that got on ebay and bought the substitute, swapped it out the day it showed in the mail.

I should have just ordered the damn P80 I wanted when I was first thinking about it. Now, after looking at Glocks and all the options for slides and barrels, the cheap skate in me is trying to justify spending the same (if not more) on an 80% as a new Glock. I do like the idea of having some time invested in my guns. Even though the AR’s I have built/assembled aren’t the fanciest or most expensive, I have pride knowing I took the time to assemble them and I know the guns inside and out. I’m sure I’ll end up ordering a P80 frame and jig kit in the next week, but it sure won’t be to save money!

People really overthink this. I just use the drill press and it works perfectly, everything is as square as necessary. The official instructions suggest not to use a drill press because it makes too easy to drill into the jig, while you can feel where jig directs a hand drill.

You can buy a used Glock much cheaper than building an 80% gun. You may be able to buy a new Glock cheaper, just depends on your build options. But, it just feels "wrong" to build one. I have built 3 of them and all 3 work perfectly.
I have been disassembling and reassembling Glocks for several years so I was no stranger to the innards of the gun.

Went ahead and ordered the frame kit. I originally was gonna go with the 19, but after looking at Glocks, decided on the 17. Got it in FDE. Now I gotta find what slide and barrel I want, and get the frame parts kit and slide parts kit. Place I ordered from was out of the frame parts kit.
**edit-I was wrong about Midway being out of the frame parts kit (I looked at so many sites I forgot which was which) so I went back and ordered it also. Feels kind of “bad” having this shipped right to the house!

Wish me luck! I ordered the slide and barrel, with the slide parts kit and Glock OEM sights, last night, so by this time next week I should have all the parts delivered, and I’ll be ready to do some “building”. Been watching Marine Gun Builders channel on YouTube. That dude doesn’t mess around! A lot of great tips for sure. I really hope I don’t get sucked into this Polymer 80 rabbit hole like I did the AR’s. But with the prices on AR parts, it’s probably a pretty good investment to have a few extra sets lying around for when they aren’t so cheap!

Well, everything went ok with the frame. Removed the tabs, sanded and smoothed everything out, and. installed the lower parts. Got the slide and barrel today, and it was hell getting the slide to go on. I re polished the rails, made sure all the holes in my jig lined up and the rails are in the right position, oiled it up real good, and it is still tighter than dick skin! Almost sounds like the slide is grinding on the rails. And forget racking it and it going back into battery, not even close to being able to do that. Looks like I’m gonna have to take it apart and figure out where I went wrong! Anyone have an idea where to start? Definitely just gonna buy a Glock next time!

The other day I got my and my wife's 19's mixed up and could not get the upper assembly back on the frame. Turns out gen 5 and gen 4 don't mix.

You get what I'm getting it, I'm sure...

I think my rails may be bowed a little and not sitting flat. They were tight going in, so I’m just gonna polish everything up a little more and make sure they are sitting level. I noticed the ejector is almost hitting the back plate when I put the slide on so something is not exactly right.

Take the barrel and recoil spring out of the slide and see of the slide goes on freely.
