I’ll take shit that didn’t happen for $1000 Alex.

    Unless it was a Sig320.
If you’re going to roughhouse with your kids, take your gun off.

If you are carrying an unloaded gun, you are WAYYYY behind the curve if you need to shoot a bad guy in the face.

I am a new carrier. I know I will eventually get comfortable carrying a loaded gun. I just need to a little more time to get a little more comfortable. This guy was very stupid to wrestle anyone with his gun on! That was very stupid.

Let's see, I've wrestled with hundreds of guys with a gun on. Some even try grabbing at shit on the belt. Never once did the gun fall out nor did it go off. I wont say it cant happen, the falling out part, but it's always old worn out leather thumb break non retention holsters and cheap assed officers who refuse to see the danger. They usually get that issue corrected when the get up and everyone asks whose gun is that on the ground. These were always revolvers, not that it matters but just interesting.

That said, never have I seen a gun with a firing pin safety, which is all of the modern carry guns, gone off when hitting the ground, i have only heard of this in old non transfer bar revolvers unless malfunctioning i.e. recent sig issues.

So what gun do you carry. How can we aleaviate those fears cause like mentioned an unloaded gun is a good paperweight only.

ETA, Hundreds may be an exaggeration. Use of force on a couple hundred plus over a couple decades yes. With a firearm in the holster or on person maybe a hundred including riots and such. Add other officers and its hundreds. With the only issues mentioned above.

Point is with proper equipment this fear is unfounded.

I hate “reporters”. Does nobody think to ask what gun it was? It’s kind of relevant because guns aren’t supposed to fire when dropped.

As for carrying with a round in the chamber? I always carry with a round in and the safety on.

Therefore, I don't keep a round loaded in the chamber.

In that state, you might as well carry a hammer. At least you can swing that more effectively.

A modern firearm in a well constructed holster that doesn't collapse is very safe. Don't be in a hurry to reholster your gun, do it deliberately and safely and you will be just fine.

Don't let this story scare you, it doesn't pass the sniff test to me.

This is one of my biggest fears. Therefore, I don't keep a round loaded in the chamber.

Find you a holster that your pistol doesn't fall out of. Unload the pistol and remove the magazine, then place the pistol in the holster and shake it and bounce it around until you feel comfortable with the holster not letting the pistol go. There are plenty of kydex or leather kydex hybrids that will do this for you and should raise your comfort level.

Then carry until you feel comfortable enough to put a round in the chamber. Sure it's not the ideal way to carry at first, but baby steps are better than non steps at all.

Don't worry. You'll get there. Then one day you'll put your pistol in your holster and leave your wallet at home because at least one is second nature and your pants don't feel right without it.

    See post #12.
Thanks. Never fail to look stupid by not reading every post. Self inflicted.

    Anyways.

That gun has a firing pin safety. They cant go off unless the trigger is pulled fully to the rear pushing the plunger in the slide up allowing the firing pin freedom to move forward.

I dont know of a carry gun made in the last 40 years without one. Maybe the very first model 39s if dropped directly muzzle down with a weak firing pin spring? If I'm wrong someone will correct me quickly.

Point is learn about your gun and you will loose this fear. Always follow all the rules and you will be fine.

Any neglect discharge of your glock will be because something got in the trigger guard when it wasnt supposed to like shirt tail or keys while holstering, or using a piss poor holster that has gaps, or your finger other times. Again follow the rules. It will not happen by being dropped.

The Glock system is not new. It's the way most modern guns block the firing pin.

Thanks for explanation of the Glock system. I had already read that but your explanation makes me feel even better.

I think the owner of the gun probably somehow had damaged the gun or was using an improper holster. Something is not being reported. According to this article it was a Glock. Glock's don't fire off unless the trigger is fully engaged.

Bubbafied trigger job? Reducing pull by phuking with the firing pin safety spring? I can think of no other way this happend if hes telling the truth.

We could speculate on other motives but forensic testing will rule that stuff out or possible.
