Firearms are finally being pulled out from under ITAR an over to the Commerce Dept. FFLs with a Mfg. license no longer have to pay a $2250 annual registration fee. This also eases the sharing of technical data for R&D, including sharing 3-D printed gun plans online. The DOC has the Export Admin. Regs for export of all firearms, parts, ammo and info. We are no longer lumped in with tanks, rocket launchers, steno pads, pencils, and toilet paper. Big thanks to Larry Keane, Sr.VP and Gen. Counsel at the NSSF to move this ball along. Firearms were stalled in the State Dept. after Sandy Hook, and politics demanded a higher level of restrictions for them. Another action to credit the Trump admin., for getting this moved to a less regulated realm of influence. Now American Mfrs are no longer forced into having factories in other countries to get around the export delays. It also lowers cost and speeds up production. Federal Regs on Firearms will still be with us, but you don't have to register with the DDTC, or live in fear of sharing plans online in or outside of the country. However, fully auto military firearms are the exception to the Commerce Dept. move. That shouldn't bother most of us.

International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), the US regulatory regime to restrict and control the export of defense and military related technologies to safeguard US national security and further US foreign policy objectives, is not "gone for good." It is being amended to better align it with the Export Control Regulations.

    Big difference.

This will only last until the majority of firearms owners fail to vote in November and the Democrats take the House, Senate and Presidency (GODS FORBID) BUT that is how it could happen SO GO VOTE!!!! Early, absentee, regular, heck go vote for your neighbor.... (demos do)

    From ammoland..........

The transfer of controls from the Department of State to the Department of Commerce, ...

the elimination of the burdensome fee for gunsmith activities, ....

and the easing of export controls for common, commercially available firearms and parts, are all welcome and useful reforms.

Exactly how the regulations will work in practice remains to be seen

Being ignorant, how does this help one who doesn't order parts from out of the country?
I dont see how it affects us at all except for those of us acting as gunsmiths being required to pay the yearly fee.

    .......unless Ive missed something.

At least it goes in the "win" column.
