I have, for some silly reason got the wants for a inexpensive .22lr snubnose, double-action revolver. They are actually kind of hard to find around here - one shop has used Charter Arms that they want more than new retail for and that is about it locally.
I am kind of considering waiting on the new Taurus, the 942 that is coming out this year as it checks all of the boxes. Not going to fork out the bucks on a S&W for a fun gun.
So another LGS in our area said they can get me a new Charter Arms Pathfinder for about $309, which is fair. I have handled one and they seem solid. They are USA made, which is another plus. Thinking the 942 might be Brazilian made. And I have nothing against Taurus - I have their 9mm 1911 and it has been rock solid. I have had a few taurus guns and only one was a pain - the first generation of the single stack 9mm subcompact 711 (I think). I got what it was trying to be, the PPS, and never looked back.
In any event do you see a downside of getting the Charter Arms Pathfinder?

Fork out the bucks for the S&W. EVERY Taurus .22 revolver I know of( and I have direct knowledge of quite a few) has broken and had to be sent back before it hits 1,000 rounds.

After warranty “repair” they all broke again before hitting 1,000 rounds.

My Smith model63 has a couple of thousand through it and still feels brand new.

Charter arms is ok for a gun that sits in your sock drawer, and never sees the light of day, until you forget about it, donate your furniture to goodwill, and have them find it and send it to captian crunch

The only other things a charter arms gun is good for is filling up space in an evidence locker, and being used to stick up gas stations and liquor stores

If you plan on doing any of the above things, get a charter arms.

    If not, buy something nice

I have my three S&W revolvers - including a featherweight snubnose stainless that is my glove box gun - and enjoy shooting them. Also have a Ruger Single Six that is a pure joy to shoot. I found a LGS that will get me a Charter Arms Pathfinder 22lr 2 inch barrel for $309 and went ahead and ordered it. If this was going to be a "target" fun for me, I probably would have forked out more and bought a Smith or the Ruger SP01 (which I like a lot). They have a warranty, plenty of good reviews out there and the dealer is a reliable gun broker shop that can address warranty issues. So I will give it a shot. I suspect there is a higher quality double-action 22 revolver in my future. Perhaps after the gas wells start generating more revenue with the tariff's lifted.

Picked up the charter arms pathfinder yesterday and put about 100 rounds through it. Pretty sure the few non fires were ammo related. Had five of those. At the end of the session stuck those back in the cylinder and four of those fired.
Shooting the snubby was as expected. I was ok in SA mode and shot high right in DA.
At 15 yards I sucked with it. Used the 1911s for that.

I just have an aversion to the "cheap" approach to firearms.

Just see your money go to a quality 22lr revolver. Don't look back.

    Ruger 101. Really accurate.
S&W 317. Really small and light.
Both a joy to own and shoot. I have both.

Admittedly not "cheap" but they will last far longer than you or me!

    That is comforting.

I don't seek out cheap, but if less expensive reasonable quality options exist I will consider them. Initial experience indicates the Charter is a reasonably well made firearm and will fit the bill for a plinker. It doesn't feel like my k-frame 357 mag 4 inch or my Ruger Single Six. It does feel a lot like my Smith 642 featherweight aluminum. I would like to handle the Taurus equivalent when it arrives. At least the Charter doesn't have the lawyer lock and oddly it came with 22 snap caps.
