I had a C39v2 for a while and enjoyed it but saw some deformation of the cast bolt & carrier after about 1k rounds that concerned me.

I think if I were to do it again, I would buy an AK with more reputable quality even if at the higher price point.

Two best AK’s are Made by IO Inc and anything built from the ground up by Century. You should definitely get those. Having those says you definitely know your AKs!

For me today it would be just one.

    https://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/gun-review-galil-ace/
    An IWI Galil Ace 7.62x39

It's on my mind because I took a buddy to my range today and he pulled one out.

With cheap steel case skanky 7.62x39 ammo we were shooting 2-3 inch groups with little trouble which I think is respectable for any AK. Hitting my 4" steel disks at 100 yards was the rule of the day.
Admittedly it was topped by a superlative 34mm-tube Trijicon 1-8x Accupower that was worth as much as the rifle.

An original Galil or Valmet are the ultimate AK variants but priced in the stratosphere and with no Picatinni rail would be tough to shoot as well as the handy new IWI offering.

Pricy. Cry once. Shoot for life.

    Is "match 7.62x39" an oxymoron????
I'm pretty sure "cheap steel case skanky 7.62x39 ammo" is offering up multi-redundancy.

Unfortunately, I've actually known people online who believed that...
I see absolutely nothing bad about my Century Arms AK. Seems to be of decent or better quality. Loads, goes bang, extracts and ejects then does it all over every time. The trigger is smoother than on any other AK I have fired and that has been several. It shoots better than the WASR 10 I sold not long ago. Seems of better quality than my sons Bulgarian AK. It has a milled receiver, has a nice set of Magpul furniture (although I wish I had gotten the walnut furniture just because I prefer wood) and a decent finish. It works well with my milsurp east bloc mags from various countries.

I don't see anything to dislike about it. My guess would be the quality control is as good or at least close to an AK made in any combloc country under a military contract. Although, I have only limited experience with AKs, I figure myself a fairly good judge of a decent quality firearm as opposed to a junker. My Century Arms C39v2 fits the decent quality firearm bill for sure - maybe even surpasses it.

Here are some links to reviews of the Century Arms C39v2:

https://www.gun-tests.com/gunreport_detail/9850.html You may need a subscription (a subscription is, I think, well worth the price) to see this one; however, here is the opening from their review: “GUN TESTS GRADE: A Worth the money. If you want a unusually well built and good- shooting AK, this is the one to get.”

The C39v2 AKs are not the Century Arms AKs of years ago!

I own a C39v1 with a milled receiver, and while it is one of the most accurate AKs I have, there are material and workmanship issues that make me hesitant to use to too much. The skeletonized bolt carriers have had a reputation for self-destructing, or, if you're "lucky," simply mushrooming/peening; and an inspection of the internals show unusual wear marks with just several hundred rounds through it.

Polish 60 milled bolts are a common replacement that I just haven't gotten to doing. Some folks still have had fitment issues with those (just be sure to check the headspace), but they're definitely better than the stock one that Century won't stand behind.

Many v1s and v2s suffered from inferior cast internals, which is a shame as I really do like the rifle. However, based on my firsthand experiences with it, and all the problems others have had that I've read about, I could not in good faith recommend one to somebody.

Anything, good or bad, about the PSA’s? I read some stuff about their earlier versions having some issues, but supposedly the issues were all fixed in the newer version.

Well, if I ever have any problems with mine or my son with his, I will post about it. For now, they are good to go.

Keep an eye on them, and I hope you don't experience any problems with yours as I really do love mine despite its issues.

But all that said, there are plenty of other foreign-made Kalashnikovs I would recommend over the Century-built ones. I would suggest a new Serb- or Romanian-built rifle before it for the same price.

The new Palmetto State Armory rifles look nice, but I have not been following how well they have been holding up. I would honestly trust one over anything Century offers, simply because of not only my experience with my C39V1 but also a M70AB2 I bought from that company that had the worst canted sights I've ever seen on an AK. I ended up sending it back and the hack job their "gunsmiths" did on it was horrendous and only barely corrected the deficiency.

Given their inability to assemble a parts kit rifle properly, I really took a chance on one they built from the ground up but initial feedback on the V1 was positive. However, after a year or so reports of failures due to the poorly cast parts Century used started to come to light. As I said, I will eventually replace the bolt carrier on my C39 with a Polish 1960 one (they're a bit tough to find these days because of it) which hopefully will be the end of that rifle's woes. it really is a solid weapon, and it's a shame that Century hasn't done more to rectify their early development issues with owners. That is the main reason I would not recommend their products to others...

My plan is to wait a few months (replenish the gun fund) and buy a quality AK. But then I see a $600 PSA or Century, and my “have to have it now” comes out!

Please tell me you didn’t for one second take me serious.

I took you serious and went about bought two Century AKs.

You were NOT serious? You didn't put the universal "/s" to indicate you were being sarcastic.

When it comes down to AK rifles you really need to inspect it before buying. That goes for any make/model. It appears just about every manufacturer foreign and domestic makes good rifles with lemons sprinkled in.

Not exactly an AK, but I haven't found any lemons on my M10X. (fun gun)
