I was in my local Academy this morning and was surprised they were selling scary black rifles. Thought they quit.

So, after thinking on this some more, where the most weight savings will come from are the the barrel, hand guard, the completed lower, and the ammunition.

Something like a pencil profile or carbon fiber barrel, V Seven Ultralight hand guard, and then (heresy) a polymer lower.

The barrel and hand guards will set you back $500 or more. Forged lowers, while heavier than polymer are lighter than billet. For lowers I’m an AeroPrecison or Battle Arms guy.

Then, drop to 20-rd mags instead of 30 and you’ll get the most weight savings with a still high-quality product.

ETA: there’s no harm in sacrificing some weight and going with a complete BCM lightweight upper for sub-$700.

    Thinking outside the box here.
Buy a Colt and put a really good trigger of your choosing.

Right or wrong, silly or serious.....it seems to me that all things that Colt discontinues appreciates more than they should.

They oft get maligned, though I've never had one break or fail to function.

Actually I'm with you on the custom build.
    Good barrel first.
    Good trigger second.
After that everything is a distant third.

    yep, yep, yep.

They may not be the best AR15.
They are, I'm pretty sure, the best known AR15.

They will go up in value and they shoot perfectly well, particularly when embellished with a crisp trigger instead of the creeeeeepy scratchy generic GI trigger.

You can save a few ounces if you lose the stock and muzzle device.

    Don't really need those.

Can also ditch the handguards for the Escape From New York look.

So I've sold my AR pending funds which gives me about 600 bucks to work with. I'm currently working on selling my Mosin plus 800 rounds i have left. which should put me around 1200 total. Now I'll need to get an optic as well and i was thinking the Vortex Strike Eagle 1-8

I’ve said it before around here, but my buddy has a 4.6 pound AR RIFLE (with holosun dot) he put together for under $1100.
It can be done, you just have to plan it out and shop the sales.

A few points, though maybe too late. Watch out with bad levers. They can cause malfunctions

Nib is nice, but any added lubricity to the carrier rails will get worn off after a few mags.

You could have saved a bit and gotten an MBT 2s instead of Geissele. The g2s is nice, but the larue is cheaper, and is a bit better laid out

Bcm barrels can be quite accurate, but some can be real dogs. For the price, faxon makes good options, and if you want to spend 200 or so on a barrel, larue is within reach.

Be careful with luthar stuff. Of 4 a1 sight parts kits, i was able to get 2 sets that went together correctly.

I'd personally get like an a2 flash hider, and get a nicer handguard.

Hmmmm I’ve not seen any loss of the NIB coating on my 300 blackout after thousand of rounds.

Had to take the gas block back because it's too small for the gas tube even though they are both spikes. So that's minus 26.89 buy + 91 for the new gas block which is titanium.

Question. Do I have to put on the forward assist? Does it change the functionality if I leave it out?
