Damnit! One of the cows had a baby overnight. I went in the pen to check everyone & she attacked me. Not just acting grumpy or snorting, full on attack.

I was able to come up slowly, wide right in the picture with baby on the other side of mom from me. I went slow w/ my hand out. She didn't do anything, not even a snort. She smelled my hand then her eyes got wide. Sure sign they're upset.

Before I could move she flipped me over & she was standing over me. Luckily she didn't stomp me, just hit me with her head, & I could crawl away. The other mother cow in the pen charged a little but didn't make contact.

After I crawled a few feet away I drew my Bodyguard & fired a shot in the ground. That made them break away.

That was some scary stuff. When she was on me I was trying to roll to my stomach to better protect myself. I thought about shooting her but I didn't want a dead 900lb cow on top of me. I figured I'd shoot her if she actually tried to stomp me.

Yesterday I was petting her & feeling her belly for a baby movement. Everything changes when the baby actually comes.

    Anyone want to preorder jerky?

    We both got off easy.

Had one do the same to me after finding her on the ground in distress on a cold winter night, dousing her with hot coffee, and then assisting her by pulling the calf out by hand while she was down.

She got up, sniffed the calf, and chased me back to the truck.

    Female gratitude for you ...

ETA: typed 'drenching', but Apple thought they knew better ...

HUH> When I took mine the instructor said bring a gun and 50 rounds. I asked about revolver and he said bring it. But you are still timed the same. I took my 1911.
Must admit the class wasn't very well run. The instructor spent more time telling stories about his time with Dallas PD. The semi-auto requirement also may have been related to the class location; we qualified before the learning portion of the class. The range let attendees in early to qualify before the range opened for general use. Mileage varies I guess.

IIRC, prior to 2013 if you qualified for a Texas CHL with a revolver, you indeed had to carry a revolver.

    Mawning misfits.
Slept in today. I ended up running a tank of gas through the chainsaw yesterday. When they say that the land was untouched, they weren't kidding. I still havent found the back property line yet. Hell im barely half way back & found what was supposed to be a dry creek, but with the rain there was about 3' of water in it. By then it was 5 & we started packing up & headed home.
