The vents people are worrying about serve two purposes. One is to provide makeup air to prevent sewage flow from creating a vacuum and pulling liquid from traps and fixtures in your house. Two the volume of sewer gas that may escape up the vent is minimal and would rarely be detected even in close proximity to the vent on the roof.
A plumber could give a more detailed description maybe but you see the lack of concern here.

I do repair and remediation work on commercial buildings. I make several thousand dollars every year extending sewer pipes up above tall parapet walls because the fresh air intake (required by code) pulls in too much sewer gas if the parapet wall is as tall as the AC and the wind can't blow the sewer gas away.

I've got a Mexican restaurant in McKinney that's on the schedule for this as we speak. (or type) It's in a strip center, so the neighboring tenants get extensions as well via the landlord.

Why does it seem almost every Mexican restaurant i go to in a strip center has that same issue. Theres so many times we walk in the parking lot or in the front door & the smell just hits ya. We always turn around & find someplace else.

It's not just Mexican restaurants. It's most restaurants since they're washing food and floors (floor drains) and have a lot more biodegradable stuff flowing down the sewer pipe. It's usually the downhill neighbors that notice it first since the smell of cooked food masks things for a little while when the problem first shows up. But if the odor is really strong in a restaurant, they've likely got a sewer vent too close to the make up air fan in the kitchen.

23% of confirmed diagnoses have recovered, while the mortality rate is climbing a bit to just under 3%.

New diagnoses outside China will most likely increase for while, but I’m not sure it’ll be at the same rate as within China.

Yep, with it breaking in to other areas of Europe I’ll watch more closely.

Makes perfect sense. It is most likely going heavily under reported in the ME. “Refugees” going into the EU via Italy will infect folks there as they migrate north into the rest of Europe.

We actually need a 3-4 week moratorium on international people travel so governments only need to deal with criminal elements

So long as goods can transit from place to place without folks getting off at the docks, the economy won’t be an issue. Viruses normally don’t last long without a host, so the goods are low risk. People gallivanting about is another story.

And I still stand by that statement; ~40% who’ve been diagnosed are now considered ‘recovered’. More people are recovering daily than are being diagnosed. We’re still talking 3,000 people outside of China have been diagnosed since day 1 and only 60 in the US. Of those 60, I can only find 1 instance of transmission. The other 59 were either in China or on the boat.

One in 330,000,000. That’s lottery odds; to be sure, we’re not out of the woods yet but I don’t expect it to spread at the same rate in the ROW as it did in China.

I can say that the auto industry is already forecasting a significantly down year, due to supply/chain issues as swell as outright plant closures.

FCA and Toyota have been first out of the gate with warnings, but the rest will soon follow suit.

It’ll tank auto stocks - which (besides Tesla) Wall Street hates anyways. Since many of these stocks are dividend-generating, it could be a good buying opportunity.

But after nearly a decade of record YoY sales, a period of softer sales was bound to happen.

Too soon to tell right now exactly how low sales will be for the year...

Don't believe the hype. The flu kills more people each year. I smell global government economic treachery.
When it's all over, we will know what it is was in truth. For now, I intend to let my imagination run wild and have some fun while getting ready for TEOTWAWKI and even by what you think is going on - TEOTWAWKI could come about in the form of global economic collapse if all this CV stuff is global economic treachery.

Yeah, because right now China wants to trash their economy while battling the US in hopes of becoming the leader in global trade...

Spent about 10 years working in the Orient, mainly the Far East region. One year of my tenure was in China; Hong Kong, Shenzen but mostly Haikou. From what I've seen with my own eyes there is no mystery to how influenza originates from, grows and mutates annually in that place. Nor am I surprised by anything "new" like Corona popping up there. I did catch Avian influenza (aka bird flu) in country in '09. 2 days in bed with a fever pounding water and orange juice, no big deal.

All that said, I would go back in a heartbeat. Country China is absolutely beautiful. And the food? You'll never eat an American Asian buffet ever again. Like going to London for Tex-Mex or something.

Same BS as the "bird flu" and "swine flu". They have to respond and act with all the global media hype.
