Interesting article about the study of how words were used, Corpus Linguistics, at the time of the writing of the constitution and 2nd and how that effects the Heller decision and both opinions. Since both opinions mentioned how words were used at the time it's interesting how this tool will be used in the future.

    TLDR....
It's not short but concludes that Scalia was more correct than Stevens.

Why they just dont read the founders other writings on the intentions of the 2nd and rest of the bill of rights that says what they meant along with what the compromise in language desired by several states and realise the flashpoint of the revolution was a gun confiscation attempt is beyond me.

    Interesting yes, and flawed.
They are looking for definitions to phrases, not the words in common usage at the time. They also left out " the right of the PEOPLE". Not the militia. The "people" were the militia. The US Federal Government had NO standing Army for some time after it became a Government. It only had a Navy and I believe Marines. The Army was came later.
IIRC, there were no restrictions on any kind of arms until well after the Civil War. Including cannons and Gatling Guns, many of which were supplied to the military by private individuals.
Roosevelt supplied many of the more advanced arms the Rough Riders used himself that HE purchased privately. At least if the History Channel and Gun Stories are correct.
