I like chinese food that we find in America. I don't get shark fin soup, birds nest soup, dog, cat, rat or bats either. Another thing I truly don't get is food from china. I guess all my years in the grocery store taught me to check dates & country of origin. China years back killed how many American pet dogs with their nasty ingrediants in dog food?

They screw up so much of what they produce it aint funny. How about china's bullshit sheet rock years ago? Y'all think about farm raised in china & tell me the distribution of these products couldn't spread a global pandemic!

I had also read/or watched a story where their farm raised shrimp was banned here in the US due to where they raised them. The shrimp farms were within a run-off area and the shrimp picked up a type of chemical in the water.

So what does China do, they just ship their shrimp to indonesia or similar country in the area and package it there.

Hard pass on everything from there.

So I will probably totally side track the spirit of this thread. I like "chinese food" usually fried rice and some sort of chicken or meat. I am sure our "American" idea is some racist version of the real thing.

I am not jive on the idea of eating bugs, snakes or eggs with birds inside and not yolks. I am sure when a population reaches critical mass food supply becomes a broader swath.

Sidetrack in 3....2....1.... what is the groups idea on other meat, I have long thought that I will some day try horse meat. Is it a societal issue that has made things like horse, cat, dog etc.. taboo to eat.

I am sure some of you have traveled to other parts unknown and seen the things people eat. I have traveled to 42 of the lower 48 and 2 of the canada's. Everything I have seen is fairly normal.

When I was in the service they were selling horse meat in the commissary. I forget what name they called it but it was horse meat and didn't sell. I think they had horse meat MRE as well. My family came from poor European stock and you wouldn't believe the foods we ate when I was a kid. Tasted pretty good too.

In Viet Nam I used to eat from street vendors and neighborhood restaurants. I never asked what it was until after I had eaten.

If it walks, crawls swims or flies, I have probably eaten it. Dog cat, monkey, snake, fish, insects and fowl.

Now I am a picky eater. Whatever it is, it never tastes like chicken.

I like vietnamese food but won't buy farm raised shrimp & bass swai from there. We have a you buy & we fry place in the neighborhood. I stopped eating there because Basa Swai is what that call catfish.

Had horse meat...cavaliers (jowls, specifically) when we lived in Europe. During USAF survival school, ate a lot of grasshoppers; de-leg first, skewer on a needle, toast over a match. It’s protein when there’s nothing else.

Had footbread in the ME, eyeball soup in Turkey, but I drew the line at bushmeat in Africa.
