Just look at this dumbfrickery: Covid test kits in the UK infected with the virus! It'll make things hard to stamp out, I imagine. OTOH, there's some encouraging info in the story. Korea has done a LOT of testing and has shown low death rate, for example.

Sweden has refused to do the total lockdown panic. Taking care of their high risk population. So far seems to be working. Not wrecking their economy.

Much easier to do when your entire population is 10M, pretty homogeneous, and intelligent enough to follow simple directions.

Different virus, I know, but...

At my former employer, starting 20+ years ago, new floppy disks from China had to be virus-scanned before use. I thought that was overkill until I personally unsealed a box of new floppies from China, scanned them for viruses, and got 2 positives from a box of 10.

To get back on topic - When working on any complex problem it's important to regularly step back and test your assumptions, even the most basic ones.

I’ve read several reports recently that China has suddenly lost the ability to produce N95 masks and other medical gear. They are shipping out tons (literally) of gear that has to be sent back after being inspected.
